Too many empty seats greet Heat stars.
What's the problem, Miami Heat fans? Are you too busy sipping mojitos and grazing on patatas bravas to get your butts in the seats on time? Is it the economy? Do you secretly hate LeBron James as much as the rest of the country does?

These are the allegations lobbed at Heat fans by the New York Times today. According to the nation's most venerable newspaper:

Ticket holders straggle in long after the opening tip and flee en masse midway through the fourth quarter to beat the traffic. Clusters of red-and-orange seats remain blindingly vacant, making American Airlines Arena appear half-empty on television.

The Wittiest (And Gayest) Bowling Roster Ever

This is not a SoFla bowler, but it's still a great photo.
via Travis Geske for the Rochester City Newspaper
Sometimes, when journalists go bowling together, we find things -- just things -- random, funny, and worth sharing with you here. What made the cut this week? The world's most flamboyant and entertaining bowling roster. If you live in Broward County, can you guess where the roster (after the jump) was taken from?

Presented without further comment, but with a little smirk, here it is...

Ever wish there were more establishments on Fort Lauderdale beach than just swanky resorts, cut-rate motels, and those shops that sell "FBI: Female Body Inspector" shirts and mysteriously manage to stay in business?

Two international hedge-fund managers are here to help. As Scott Wyman at the SS reports, Swedish investor Par Sanda has been buying up struggling old hotels on the barrier island between Bayshore Drive and the Bonnet House.

Gallup Poll: People in South Broward Are Really, Really Sad

Dude, how can you be sad?
Here's a depressing thought to kick off your week: Every year, a Gallup poll asks American adults about their quality of life, then sorts the results by geographic area. The queries include things like, "Did you experience feelings of happiness during a lot of the day yesterday?" and "Are you satisfied or dissatisfied with your job or the work you do?"

Yesterday, the New York Times published a national map of the 2010 survey results. And lo and behold, Florida's 17th Congressional District -- stretching from Hollywood south to North Miami -- took the prize for the "most people who felt sad a lot during the previous day."*

Damn. So that sinking feeling in our guts is actually statistically significant? How can

Sick of Suffering Through Long DMV Lines? Here's Hoping 'Pit Bosses' Are the Solution

Finally, a bit of justice for all those times you've stood in line at the DMV wondering why employee breaks occur simultaneously; why lunch hours last longer than 60 minutes; and why no single employee can assist more than two ticket-holders back to back.

If you've recently been to one of Broward County's eight DMV offices lately, chances are you've spent over 30 minutes waiting in line. Things are worse in Palm Beach County, where it can take up to four hours to get a driver's license from the Tax Collector's office.

There may be a solution: The DMV is now using "pit bosses" to keep things moving. It's a new tactic implemented by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, which

The Epitome of Trendiness. Did you know its towers were built to resemble a sailboat?
The W Hotel in Fort Lauderdale is the trendiest hotel in the country, according to TripAdvisor -- an upscale win for the changing face of Fort Liquordale (Fort Martinidale?). So why, with the bounties of trendy in cities like New York and Los Angeles, did the folks who use TravelAdvisor bestow such an honor on a South Florida (and not even Miami) establishment? Let's examine.

Five Reasons Why Kevin Simon, Alleged Belligerent JetBlue Passenger, Is No Steven Slater

Kevin Simon, former resident of Fort Lauderdale
You can take the man out of South Florida, but you can't take the South Florida out of the man.

The country learned that lesson the hard way this week, when former Fort Lauderdale resident, Kevin Theodore Simon, allegedly went berserk on a JetBlue flight from San Francisco to Fort Lauderdale. Monday's transcontinental flight had to make an emergency stop in Salt Lake City so that FBI agents could take Simon into custody after JetBlue's "no cash for headphones" policy supposedly threw him into a belligerent rage (That is slightly annoying.).
