Anonymous Hacked Burger King Twitter Yesterday Because of Horse Meat

And we hate horse meat.

The hacker group Anonymous -- that sallow group of individuals ensconced somewhere in their parents' basements -- yesterday took down the King of Burgers. Sometime in the afternoon, Anonymous assumed control of Burger King's Twitter feed, putting up a McDonald's logo, tweeting that the company had been sold to McDonald's, and uploading a photo of a black youth injecting some type of drug.

Then, it laughed its ass off.

Until late last night, however, it wasn't clear why Anonymous took over BK's Twitter. But then, around midnight, the answer surfaced in several of the hacker group's own tweets @YourAnonNews. Anonymous -- which has a penchant for taking itself extremely seriously -- took over Burger King's twitter feed because of horse meat.

Independence Hall Tea Party PAC Gets Its Website Really, Really Hacked (UPDATED)

One of many screenshots. One of the less offensive iterations.
UPDATE, 1:30 p.m.: Got in touch with the president of the PAC. He said he was upset. Added comment to the end of the story.

A small New Jersey-based political action committee had its website torn to little, vulgar shreds last night by lunatics who appear to have come from the popular internet messageboard site 4chan. They reportedly got in by guessing the password, which was, uh, "p9ssw0rd."

PAC President Don Adams said Friday afternoon that the group was pursuing legal action.

Christopher Chaney Just Couldn't Keep His Celebrity Hacking a Secret

In case you aren't one of the ridiculously cultured sirs who read Gentleman's Quarterly, let this be a heads-up to you that the latest issue has a feature on Christopher Chaney, the Jacksonville man who used Google and the "I forgot my password" button to hack into the email accounts of Scarlett Johansson, Mila Kunis, and 50 others, eventually leaking at least one nude photo of Johansson.

The article recounts how Chaney sneaked into the accounts, quietly set them up to forward copies of all emails to his account, then moved on to the next one. All, he says, just to see if he could.

"It's the whole Star Trek thing," he told GQ. "Going where no man has gone before."

Scarlett Johansson, Mila Kunis -- Who Else Did Christopher Chaney, Florida's Celebrity Hacker, Spy On?

Earlier this week, a 35-year-old Jacksonville man, Christopher Chaney, pleaded guilty to charges that he hacked into celebrity email accounts and leaked nude photos of several of them, including Scarlett Johansson and Mila Kunis. He faces up to 60 years in prison, according to the Associated Press, for gaining access to more than 50 celebrity email accounts. He also might end up being on the hook for millions of dollars in fines and restitution.

My original plan was to use court documents to explain how he did it, but Ars Technica did a great job of that already -- surprisingly, he didn't need an ounce of technical know-how; he used Google to guess the "I forgot my password" security questions on a popular Hollywood stylist's email address.

Fox News Now Pilfering Stories From the "Lib Media"

Roger Ailes: You owe me money, dude.
Fox News likes to mock news from liberal media. Today, however, it plagiarized some.

We already know what Fox thinks of New Times -- when we accused Congressman Allen West of violating the flag code by taking an American flag scuba diving, Fox News rewrote a stolen headline to read, "Lib Media Says Allen West Violated Flag Code."

Now, though, the Fox content thieves have copied a New Times blog post -- byline and all -- and stuck it on the front page of their Fox Nation section, which features stories painstakingly stolen from news sources that can get by without quite as much plagiarism.

Somebody call Al Gore.

Sen. Marco Rubio's official website has been down for nearly an entire day, and the St. Petersburg Times thinks President Barack Obama is to blame.

Obama asked last night that people call all of their legislators to ask them to find a compromise on all this debt-ceiling drama, and Rubio's site went down shortly thereafter.

Earlier in the week, a hacker going by the name Abhaxas claimed to have gained access to part of Florida's election system -- allegedly releasing handfuls of voter data to prove a point.

"Who believes voting isn't being tampered with?" Abhaxas had posted on Twitter.

Officials from Southwest Florida counties assured inquiring minds that there was no way the hacking could influence future elections in one way or another and that Abhaxas had gained access to only slightly sensitive information.

Abhaxas begs to differ, with new information released yesterday.

A hacker going by the name Abhaxas claims to have hacked part of the Florida voter database and publicly posted his findings.

Using his Twitter account, Abhaxas posted this text file of Florida voting information, saying, "Who believes voting isn't being tampered with?"

From the names of the files the hacker allegedly uncovered, it looks like he or she gained access to voter demographic analysis by district, race data, and candidate information that was supposed to be stored on a secure server.
