Zimmerman, second from left, at what appears to be a Friday's.
In case you missed it, Florida's most famous gun owner got himself a new website. George Zimmerman's lawyers set up a revamped web presence for the man charged with second-degree murder in the February shooting death of Trayvon Martin, using it to publish statements from the legal team and encourage involvement in the "George Zimmerman Legal Case" social media accounts.

And now they're using it to, uh, aggregate negative stories about Zimmerman.

George Zimmerman Launches New Website, Social Media Accounts

zimmerman-mug-new.jpg
George Zimmerman might have shut down his bootleg website at therealgeorgezimmerman.com, but his new legal counsel has launched a professionally designed website at GZlegalcase.com to help with the public relations nightmare surrounding the February killing of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.

"We understand that it is unusual for a legal defense to maintain a social media presence on behalf of a defendant, but we also acknowledge that this is a very unusual case," his lawyers wrote. "Social media in this day and age cannot be ignored. It is now a critical part of presidential politics, it has been part of revolutions in the Middle East, and it is going to be an unavoidable part of high-profile legal cases... We feel it would be irresponsible to ignore the robust online conversation."

Allen West Votes to Let Potential Employers Root Around in Your Facebook

Thumbnail image for Allen-West-flag.jpg
There's been all manner of hullaballoo the past week or so about reports that an increasing number of employers have been asking job applicants to hand over their social media log-in information as part of the job application process -- if you want the job, you have to show them what you're up to on Facebook, Twitter, and other sites.

Many have pointed out that the policy has the potential to reveal things like an applicant's marital status, sexual orientation, religion, race, and age -- all things that are illegal to actually ask about during the hiring process.

Shrubs and love, man.
His name is SoFloDude, and he's fed up with dating websites.

Whoever this guy is, he's traipsing around Broward and Palm Beach counties, making hip-hop dating videos with lyrics like:

"I'm lookin' for a girl that I can call my Ms. Right (yeah) / 5'5, pretty, slender, and polite (Unh)."

Top Four Racist YouTube Rants by Stupid Young People

santaluces-vid.PNG

The Palm Beach County School District is all atwitter today over a racist video posted to YouTube by two girls from Santaluces High School. We'll never know what made them think it was a good idea to post a public video on the internet saying, "I don't like black people. They're annoying. They stink. They're ugly," but the reaction has been swift.

In addition to myriad response videos ("This must be the racist white girl apocalypse") going online, one Twitter user said that the girls' contact information was being disseminated online and that there were rumors of "cracka beatdowns" at Santaluces. Yes, the girls are young and stupid, but they absolutely should have known better -- not only is this not the first time people have been busted for internet racism; it's not the first time this month. IN FLORIDA. Here are four embarrassingly racist videos that blew up after being posted online.

Racist Video From Santaluces High School Girls, Rumors of "Cracka Beatdowns" Making the Rounds

racist-baby.jpg
Update, 3:50 p.m.: We've added a list of the top four racist YouTube rants by stupid young people, if you're interested.

Santaluces High School in Lantana has some extra police officers today, according to the Palm Beach Post, after two white teenagers from the school posted an online video of themselves "making racist comments."

We were kind of skeptical... but yeah, it's pretty racist.

Much of the four-minute video is just dumb giggling, and I was tempted to just leave the issue alone. Then one of the girls said, "So, guys, if you are watching this video right now and you have weave and you are black, please be offended, 'cause we are making fun of you." So here we are.

Allen West's "Comparative History Lesson" Wasn't So Historical

Thumbnail image for allenwest.jpg
Looks at 35 years of turmoil in the Middle East, blames Democrats for all of it.
Congressman (and former high school history teacher) Allen West gave his Facebook followers a "comparative history lesson for America" yesterday in which he blamed Jimmy Carter for "the resurgence of radical Islamic totalitarianism" and then compared it to Obama's calls for then-Egyptian President Hosni Mubarek to step down, a move that he said "led to a Muslim Brotherhood dominated Egyptian parliament, Coptic Christian persecution, violence and Islamist control, and [19] Americans now detained with under threat of imprisonment."

We were curious if Obama really was to blame for all this, so we called Robert Danin, a senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations, a D.C.-based foreign relations think tank. Danin served, among a long list of other posts, under President George W. Bush as deputy assistant secretary of state in charge of Egyptian affairs.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Danin said West's interpretation was a little off.

Facebook Is Going Out of Business, According to Overly Optimistic Pembroke Pines Woman

Facebook-Logo.jpg
A Pembroke Pines woman says she's going to "destroy Facebook's lead in the social networking universe" with her new social networking website that costs $45 a year.

Good luck.

Evelyn Castillo-Bach says her website, UmeNow, is everything Facebook isn't -- as far as advertising and privacy are concerned.

"Our service is all about privacy," the website says. "Facebook is a professional data collector. Google is the mothership of all data collectors. It has nothing on us. They're not even in our league. Let's not forget, Google chief Eric Schmidt told the world straight up that Google+ is not even a social network. It's an 'identity verification' service. Anyone still think these giants really care about privacy?"

Facebook Adds "Civil Union" to Status Choices -- Here Are Ten More Options for Consideration

Facebook now includes "Civil Union" and "Domestic Partnership" among its relationship status options. Since the genesis of the online "Relationship Status" in the early 2000s, the few and definite choices have fallen short of defining the ever-complex myriad of situations that could constitute a "relationship."

Yes, "It's complicated" has been a reliable catchall for any point on the scale ranging from hookup to marriage, but in this age of oversharing, "complicated" grossly shortchanges how much information can be conveyed in a succinct status.

Suggestions after the jump.
