Stranded Carnival Cruise Passengers Report Human Waste on Floor

After getting stuck for the past two days thanks to a generator failure that has stopped some of the toilets from working, Carnival Cruise's Dream is flying passengers off the ship.

The good news is that the ship was not stuck in the middle of the sea but rather on the dock at Philipsburg, St. Maarten, in the eastern Caribbean.

The bad news is that passengers were not allowed to disembark during the "blackout."

The really bad news: Shit and pee has been reported to be overflowing from some toilets.

As we noted earlier this month, there are plenty of weird and awful ways to die on a cruise ship. Now falling can be added to the list of lethal hazards.

Broward Sheriff Office investigators on Monday combed over Royal Caribbean International's Liberty of the Seas after a 47-year-old woman missed a step and fell down the rest of the flight. Royal Caribbean noted in a news release that its medical team provided care to the woman after the fall, but she died while still onboard.

The FBI had to tag along with the BSO to the scene.

The Italian Coast Guard on Wednesday halted efforts to recover bodies from the wreckage of the Costa Concordia, a massive cruise ship that capsized last week off the coast of Italy. With at least 11 people dead and more than still 20 missing, the accident has already dealt a financial blow to the industry, which happens to employ quite a few South Floridians and brings millions of tourists to the region each year.

Details of the accident are still being worked out, and it will likely take months or even years before authorities wrap up full investigations. But initial reports indicate that the ship's captain, Francesco Schettino, decided to showboat for the beach-dwelling locals and steer the 114,500 ton machine way too close to the shore. The boat hit a rock and soon capsized.

Having a d-bag of a captain who jumps ship -- and then later claims he was catapulted out of the boat -- isn't the only way of risking life and limb on the high seas. From viruses to toxic gas, here's a quick look at some other notable factors that can really fuck up your vacation.

The Maltese Falcon, the World's Largest Floating Metaphor for the Financial Collapse, to Sail Into Port Everglades

maltese-falcon.jpg
The Maltese Falcon stands for something, and it's something you can't afford.
Sometime this week, a giant, floating, three-masted metaphor will arrive in Port Everglades. Specifically, it's the Maltese Falcon, one of the world's largest and most expensive private boats. The 289-foot ship is every inch an example of a simple fact of the times: While the poor struggle with a weak economy, the superrich hoist their gleaming white sails.

Now sure, that might sound a bit negative, but check out how the Maltese Falcon ended up floating into port here sometime on Wednesday or Thursday, according to a source who spoke to the Pulp on

It's been a rough few days for Royal Caribbean's Allure of the Seas. Last weekend, a crew member on the Port Everglades-based megaship was murdered on a beach in Cozumel by a Mexican bartender; now a passenger has been charged with dealing drugs on board.

Steven Krumholz, a 51-year-old from West Hollywood, was arrested on Saturday aboard Atlantis, "the world's largest gay cruise," which chartered the entire 5,500-person ship. During a stopover in St. Thomas, U.S. Customs and Border Protection conducted a random raid on the ship.

They reportedly found 2.83 grams of methamphetamine, more than 140

Allure of the Seas Crew Member Murdered on Stopover in Mexico

allure-of-the-seas.jpg
In mid-November, the world's largest cruise ship arrived at its new home in Port Everglades to throngs of cheering fans. Soon it embarked on its maiden voyage, a cruise of the Caribbean -- including a stop at Labadee, Haiti, an isolated hamlet just miles from the cholera and destruction of Port-au-Prince.

But the ship's first real tragedy came on Saturday, when 32-year-old Polish crew member Monika Markiewicz was killed on the beaches of Cozumel, allegedly by a 24-year-old Mexican bartender. Nelson Perez Torres told Mexican authorities that
