Goodman and Tupac, out on bail.
UPDATE 5/18: Goodman was released from jail this morning and is now home in Wellington.

5/17: When polo mogul John Goodman goes home to Wellington to serve house arrest while appealing his conviction for DUI manslaughter, he will join a prestigious group of felons who had a similar luxury. As we noted yesterday, Boynton Beach femme fatale Dalia Dippolito is currently out on a $500,000 bond while appealing her conviction for solicitation to commit murder. But she's not alone:

Tom DeLay, longtime Republican congressman from Texas and former House Majority Leader, is currently out on bail while appealing his conviction for conspiracy and money laundering charges related to corporate campaign donations.

Former media mogul Conrad Black was temporarily released from prison while he

John Goodman to Join Dalia Dippolito: Home on Bond During Appeal

Dalia Dippolito is on house arrest pending her appeal.
Multimillionaire John Goodman will soon return to the lap of luxury, at home beside the lush green grounds of the International Polo Club he founded in Wellington. Rather than immediately serving his 16-year prison sentence, he will win this get-out-of-jail pass after posting a $7 million bond and paying for off-duty cops to monitor him around the clock.

For a man convicted of killing a 23-year-old in a drunk driving accident, the setup hardly sounds like harsh punishment. But it's the deal Goodman struck to avoid prison while appealing his case, and it brings to mind another high-profile appeal in Palm Beach County. Dalia Dippolito, the Boynton Beach newlywed convicted last year of plotting to have her husband whacked by a hit man, is currently on house arrest after posting a $500,000 bond.

John Goodman's Girlfriend/Adopted Daughter Testifies in DUI Trial

Nope, no pillow talk about the crash.
Let's say you're sleeping with a multimillionaire who's on trial for DUI manslaughter, and you also happen to be the defendant's adopted daughter and trust fund beneficiary. No one expects you to be an unbiased witness. Yet Heather Colby's testimony in the John Goodman trial yesterday reached new heights of incredulity.

Although she was the first person Goodman called after the car accident that killed Scott Wilson in 2010 and she flew down to Miami later that day to be with him, Colby insists her lover never told her anything about the crash.

Colby is a golden-haired woman with a confident Southern smile and a cross chastely hugging her neck. On the witness stand, she was relaxed and warm, smiling at the prosecutor as she described her life as a stay-at-home mom in Atlanta.

Lisa Pembleton, Star Witness in John Goodman Trial, Gets Grilled About Her Free Lawyer

Pembleton urged Goodman to call 911.
Lisa Pembleton doesn't drink. Neither do her friends.

"I don't hang out with those kind of people," she said on the witness stand in a West Palm Beach courtroom today.

Her sobriety is just one of many stark differences between Pembleton, a horse trainer and student of the equestrian sport of dressage, and Wellington polo mogul John Goodman. Pembleton spent her days and nights grooming horses during the winter of 2010, living in a trailer next to a barn. Goodman is a multimillionaire who founded the International Polo Club in Wellington, and was out partying the night before he met Pembleton.

Yet this sober, God-fearing, 28-year-old horse trainer is the prosecution's star witness in Goodman's DUI manslaughter case. She's the first person who saw Goodman after the car accident that led toMore »

UPDATED: Dalia Dippolito Murder-for-Hire Story on Investigation Discovery Tonight

Improbable as it may sound, there is an entire television series devoted to people who hire hit men to kill their loved/hated ones. The Investigation Discovery show Nothing Personal is hosted by Steve Schirripa, the jovial comedian who played Bobby Baccalieri on The Sopranos. Now he uses his mobster street cred to narrate true-crime dramas about women who plot to kill their husbands -- women like Boynton Beach's own Dalia Dippolito.

Goodman went to a friend's barn before calling 911.
Wellington polo mogul John Goodman goes on trial in a West Palm Beach courtroom tomorrow, charged with driving drunk and causing the car accident that killed 23-year-old Scott Wilson in 2010.

It's been nearly two years since a New Times cover story dug deep into the case, so here's a refresher on some of the juiciest details that may emerge as key issues in the trial:

-- Goodman's alleged penchant for white powder. A bartender at the Players Club told sheriff's investigators there were times she had seen the polo mogul with "powder hanging out of his nose." His ex-wife, Carroll Goodman, accused him in court documents of abusing cocaine. And the night of the crash, another witness, Stacey Shore, said Goodman suggested they go get some cocaine. She refused. He left the bar without her. According to the Palm Beach Post, toxicology tests did not reveal cocaine in Goodman's blood after the crash.

-- The role of rescue workers in the crash. Scott Wilson was not immediately killed

Polo Mogul John Goodman Says He Adopted Girlfriend to Protect His Kids

Goodman says he was protecting his kids.
Wellington multimillionaire John Goodman knows he might be going away for a while. The founder of the International Polo Club is facing multiple criminal charges for allegedly driving drunk and causing the car accident that killed 23-year-old Scott Wilson in 2010. He has pleaded not guilty to vehicular homicide, DUI manslaughter, and failure to render aid; his trial is scheduled for March.

Apparently, Goodman,48, is worried enough about doing prison time that he devised a bizarre way to make sure his two young children are provided for in his absence. He adopted his 42-year-old girlfriend, Heather Hutchins, so she could look after his kids' trust funds and give them most of the money, according to a statement Goodman's attorney, Daniel Bachi, released today.

"Mr. Goodman has placed his trust in Ms. Hutchins to continue his vision and provide
