Wilton Manors Commissioner Ted Galatis Uses N-Word During Road Rage Incident

"I may have used the 'N' word while trying to protect myself from the immediate threat," writes Wilton Manors Commissioner Ted Galatis, after he and his wife were involved in a road-rage incident near his home Sunday night.

"I apologize for my use of the 'N' word," he goes on to say. "It is something I never say. I offer no excuse, other than it was uttered when I was being threatened in front of my own home."

According to a police report released on Thursday, Galatis and his wife were leaving the Publix on Oakland Park Boulevard when they were followed by another car that began honking at them. Galatis told cops that he got out to confront the occupants in the car, who were all black.

The occupants in the car said that Galatis, 52, began using the racial slur in a fit of rage.

"[Driver] stated that T Galatis began calling her and her passengers 'N_____' and at that point she requested for police to respond," the police report reads. "[Driver] stated that she was upset that T Galatis called her and the passengers of her vehicle 'N____' and did not want him to get away with it."

According to Galatis' version of the incident, he admits to using the racial slur, but not before a young black man got out of the other car and asked him, "What's your problem, white boy?"

Galatis' wife, Donna, told NBCMiami that the verbal attacks continued from the other occupants in the car.

"What they said to me -- white bitch, I'll slice you up," she claims.

According to the driver of the other car, Lotoya Marie Pinkney, the incident began with a misunderstanding. Pinkey told police that another car had been honking at Galatis before turning off into another street.

Galatis got of his car in a rage, Pinkney says, and began yelling at them. That's when they began yelling back before Galatis dropped the N-bomb.

"I'm going to have you arrested," Pinkney said, per the Sun Sentinel. "I know who you are."

Of course, using racial slurs is not a crime. No arrests were made or charges filed.

Meanwhile, the Dolphin Democrats, an LGBT advocacy group located in Wilton Manors, has called for Galatis' resignation, calling his outburst "unacceptable."

Galatis, a Republican, is running for reelection in November.

I am confused about a couple of statements made by the so called "VICTIMS" #1- PER MS. PINKNEY'S QUOTE " Pinkney said. She said she honked at Galatis because she had to slam on her brakes as he came to a sudden stop by his driveway"...she also said "The other driver, Lotoya Marie Pinkney, told police it was a different vehicle between her and Galatis honking at Galatis on Andrews Avenue after exiting Publix. That vehicle turned off after all three vehicles turned onto Northwest 29th" I think not........... if indeed there was another driver then how did Ms. Pinkney get so close to Ted's car that she had to slam on her brakes when he turned into his driveway.Ted said that was the same car behind him all the way from Publix honking at him. Ted was aware of what car was behind him. So unless she was not paying attention, speeding or intentionally tailgating cause she was on his ass honking as Ted said, is the only reason she should have to slam on her brakes, because she should have been 2 car lengths behind Ted not giving any reason to have to slam on her breaks. Let's say she did have to slam on her brakes, so what? What woman blocks someone in and their 16 year old son jump out of the car and start first yelling racial slurs and aggressively goes after a stranger? Lady are you crazy yourself or to allow your minor son to be endangered like that???? It seems this family has anger issues. Also another thing that is bothering me is "Pinkney told police she also told Galatis, "I'm going to have you arrested. I know who you are."......... REALLY NOW.... you know who he is????? Does Ms. Pinkney live in Wilton Manors to know Ted Galatis is a City Commissioner or that he is self employed????? I think not... She lives in Sunrise, not Wilton Manor. Sounds like a set up to me. Who is running against Ted in the November re-election. I think there is more to this....One more thing why is it being over looked that they caused this commotion calling Ted racial slurs and making threats against him and his wife and that is ok, she now spoke on the news stating Ted's wife had a knife, why was that not mentioned the night of the conflict? Because there was no knife but she did threaten to cut his wife up calling her a "white bitch"......WOW this could have turned out so much worse than it did. It's a good thing this boys mama isn't planning a funeral for her son for her actions and his......There is more to this, it stinks like rotten fish........

Is Galatis' claim that a bunch of black people followed him home for no reason?

Did Lotoya Marie Pinkney target Ted Galatis?  Does this woman have a history of repeat violence and questionable ethics?  Does she work at Publix? If the shoe fits...

His decision to utilize word choice shows his character, Is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. If he is quick to refer to a black person as a nigger, I am wondering what he thinks of gays.

Who doesn't want to be followed home by a car full of strangers honking at you and then complain to high hell when you stop in front of your OWN house in a residential neighborhood!?!  Is this just the beginning?

@davedixter It was not Lotoya Marie Pinkney who made the decision for Ted Galatis to use the derogatory and racial word. He did, and has owned up as much. So butt-off Miss Lotoya with your concocted conspiracy theory. I would not trust someone of Mr Galatis' predisposition to be impartial in matters affecting his immediate community, which comprises of people from various ethnic background. He has shown himself incapable of making sound and impartial judgment when under pressure. He needs to go, now. There's no place for people like this in our political system. They further polarize an already complex situation for the rest of us.

@kingjonathan1977  What's your thought on the gansta rappers and their prolific use of the dreaded N word? Are they steeped in 1950's hatred as well? Funny how you don't hear Jews or any other minority group responding to each other with racial epithets in jest. Bottom line is that the N word is bad when its convenient. As in weaseling one's way out of a possible assault/road rage charge.....

@joseph.anoseven Does this concern you Joey?

BTW, S S reports that all of this transpired in his driveway. They could have continued driving on, couldn't they have? Not many rational "victims" in this but you took sides. Why is that?

"Pinkney told police Galatis got out of his car and began yelling at her and her passengers. That's when they got out and exchanged words with him, with Galatis calling them the N-word, she told police. She said her son may have called Galatis "white boy," police said.

@plastic73 the whole "gangsta rap" explanation when a white person uses the n-word is soooo stupid. Do you really not see the difference?

@KennyPowersII White boy is the equivalent of N8GGER?  Really?  If you think that the black family is trash, then you are saying that Galatis is trash also.  You are making that equivalency.

@KennyPowersII It's not about taking sides. You're held to a higher level of accountability when you occupy a responsible political office as Mr. Galatis. And you can't be seen exhibiting the same crass level of mentality as often displayed in commentaries on the blogosphere and expect us to believe you'd wield the authority of sate without prejudice.

@joseph.anoseven @KennyPowersII Higher standards?  Easy to play Monday morning quarterback from the safe confines of your house/office.  Let's see what comes out of your mouth when someone comes rushing up to you in your driveway.  Its called "in the heat of the moment".  That A-hole is luck that Mr. Galatis didn't have a gun in the heat of the moment.  And save your pathetic Zimmerman comments.  Galatis was the pursuee, not the pursuer.
