More than four months after Kayla Mendoza allegedly (and drunkenly) careened into two young women on the Sawgrass Expressway, she has been arrested and formally charged with their deaths. In a story that went absolutely bonkers on the internet last November, New Times reported that the 21-year-old Mendoza had Tweeted "2 drunk 2 care" hours before the head-on collision with Marisa Catronio and Kaitlyn Ferrante.

After painstakingly building a case against her, the Florida Highway Patrol has finally turned its investigation over to the the State Attorney's Office. Mendoza suffered serious leg injuries during the crash and was being treated at a rehab facility until mid-December. She was taken to jail in an ambulance, because she's still wearing a traction splint and a halo, Catronio's uncle reported yesterday.

She's been charged with two counts of DUI manslaughter due to high blood-alcohol content, two counts of DUI manslaughter due to impairment, two counts of vehicular homicide, and two counts of causing death or serious injury while driving with a suspended license.

According to the FHP, Mendoza had a BAC of twice the legal limit and was found with traces of marijuana in her system. Her social media presence glorified the use of drugs and alcohol -- in some postings, she even bragged about consuming these substances in her vehicle.

Pulp is still waiting to find out what kind of sentencing she faces if convicted. We'll update this post as soon as we find out.

This girl better get the maximum. Florida law states 8 years per person yo kill if you are convicted of drunk driving and killed someone as a result. She better serve out her 16 years. These two other young girls won't have a chance to live their lives so its the least she can do.

Really I wish that bitch was dead. The drunk driver always lives and innocent people die. This bitch had no regard for anyone else beside her dumb drunk self. This story really hits home because a week after this happened I was hit by a drunk driving bitch going the wrong way on Biscayne blvd. She could have killed me, my unborn child, my son and husband. I have no tolerance for drunk drivers!
