South Florida is for fightin' on President's Day, apparently. Because people got their rumble on during Monday's holiday.

A huge throw-down in Ft. Lauderdale forced cops to shut down portions of A1A on Monday afternoon.

Cops say the beach brouhaha began on the corner of Las Olas Boulevard and A1A and spilled over onto Beach Place at around 5:00 p.m. Monday afternoon.

A cavalry of squad cars were rushed to the scene to get a hold of the situation before things escalated.

According to one pedicab driver, a teen boy ran up and punched a female customer of his.

In all, there were three arrests reported in the fight. No injuries were reported.

From the Sun-Sentinel:

Pedicab driver Abner Santos-Pepin, 21, of Davie, said the beachfront was unusually crowded and boisterous for a Monday night. He figured it was because schools were closed for Presidents Day.

"Some 13- or 14-year-old guy ran up and punched a girl in my pedicab," he said. "He didn't know her, it was just random."

Meanwhile, Miami Beach had its own version of a President's Day beach brawl -- several, in fact -- between Sixth and Eighth streets.

Miami Beach Police had several officers respond to the fight, and a spokesperson for the police says that an estimated crowd of up up to 2,000 people were in the area at the time of the fight.
