A SWAT team put down a gunman who forced the lock down of the Moore Justice Center in Viera, as well as Viera High School, and Viera Charter School in Brevard County on Friday afternoon.

Palm Bay police officers had cornered the man in an area near the courthouse around 10:30 a.m. Friday morning as a negotiator tried to have the man turn himself in.

But, police say, after he reacted in an aggressive manner, authorities were forced to fire.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, the man -- whose identity has not been released by police -- had been approached by law enforcement and the FBI after he allegedly made a threat to bomb the courthouse.

Officials say that there wasn't sufficient evidence to be alarmed at the time, and let the man go.

But on Friday morning, Sheriff's Office intelligence warned that he was on his way to the courthouse. When he arrived, police were already waiting for him.

The standoff began when the man brandished a gun.

A pair snipers took aim at the man from a courthouse rooftop while officers on the ground took cover behind their squad cars, with guns pointed at the suspect.

During the standoff, employees inside the courthouse were moved to the back of the building as a negotiator tried reasoning with the man in a standoff that lasted several hours.

At around 1:00 p.m., a SWAT team assembled behind an armored truck, and moved towads the gunman. According to WESH.com, the man began running when a SWAT officer shot and killed him.

Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey told reporters that the gunman had "responded in an aggressive manner," forcing the SWAT team to take him down.

"We don't know what he is agitated over," Ivey said.

According to police, the man had been carrying a bag with him, though they've yet to release information on what the bag contained. The courthouse was eventually evacuated and closed for the day as a bomb squad investigated the area.

Per policy, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement will investigate the shooting. There were no other injuries reported.
