George Zimmerman Won't Face Charges for Threatening Wife With Gun

Hey. Whaddaya know. George Zimmerman gets to go free. Again.

Despite apparently pulling a gun on his wife, Shellie, and allegedly threatening her and punching her father, charges won't be pressed against George Zimmerman.

According to Lake Mary Police Chief Steve Bracknell, Shellie and her father told authorities they would not press charges.

In fact, Shellie apparently told officers who responded to her 911 call that "she never saw a weapon," Bracknell says.

Shortly before 3 p.m. Monday, Shellie Zimmerman called 911 and told the dispatcher that George had showed up to her father's home and an altercation soon followed. She said he punched her father. She also said George was threatening them with his gun.

"He's in his car, and he continually has his hand on his gun and keeps saying, 'Step closer,'" Shellie told the dispatcher. "He's just threatening all of us.

"I don't know what he's capable of," she added. "I'm really scared."

But police say George told them Shellie and her father were the aggressors in the altercation. Officers say they are reviewing surveillance video from the house, hoping it caught some of what happened.

Meanwhile, George's attorney, Mark O'Mara, told reporters that his client was the only one who lived in the home and that, even though the house is under his in-law's name, he and Shellie were the only ones living there.

Shellie recently filed for divorce from George.

She also claims that she and George had a big fight on the night he shot and killed Trayvon Martin.

O'Mara told reporters on Monday that George did have his gun during his altercation with Shellie but that it was holstered under his shirt and that he never took it out.

O'Mara confirmed that there was some "pushing and shoving" but that's about it.

He blamed the whole brouhaha on emotions running high.

"They need to just sort of stay away from each other, keep things cool, and work though their attorneys," O'Mara said.

This was just the latest in many an incident Zimmerman has found himself in since he was acquitted for shooting Trayvon Martin.

So much for "laying low."

Among the incidents, Zimmerman was pulled over twice for speeding -- once in Texas and once again here in Florida.

He also apparently saved a family from an accident and was seen buying himself a tactical gun.

I know your trying to be a smartass and coming off as a dumbass. First off I know you don't know about Florida football teams or you would see it's a Bucs flag. But enough of that the real story is piss poor journalistic skills by a person who likes putting own opinion into a news story. If you want to put your opinion into it than it is no longer called news but an opinion piece. This should have been week 2 in your online journalism course you took. But alias you must have missed that chapter. And just so you know a little background on me before you think anything else my experience in journalism does surpass yours. I was in it from 94-03 before I went touring. But not going into that as well.

JEREMY! We have news! There's a journalism teaching job that just opened. AND THEY WANT YOU. Perhaps this is because your condescension is so infectious, or perhaps it's because your entire profile picture is of flames. Regardless of the reason, faculty members are scrambling for this newest addition. One remarked, "This Jeremy guy really must know how to school young journalists into producing reportage of the highest quality. Get him on faculty. Pay whatever sum he desires." But first, please -- oh, please -- come to our office and teach us how to do journalism. WE NEED YOUR HELP, JEREMY. Don't wait. Act now.

Um. This is just another Zimmerman story that EVERY news group" jumped the gun" on. But most have moved it to a non news story unlike New Times Broward Palm Beach Who really don't know how to properly report. Kinda like a bunch of CSB students getting their first reporting job and trying to get noticed. Or the new writer on a college paper trying to get the editor's attention so they can get in the paper. The news story here that you've so dimwittedly missed was that every news outlet jumped the gun and that should have also been the headline. But with new times it's monkey see monkey do.

Um, actually, I don't see where this is going, Rachel. Writing "Shellie and her Dad Versus George: Nothing to see here." is wrong on several fronts. One, that would be editorializing a news event -- which we have no problem doing, but we'd do it a much more sophisticated manner. And two, if there wasn't anything happening, it wouldn't be news -- so we wouldn't write that in the first place. Reporters report what they find in police reports, or glean from other journalistic accounts. If you don't like that sort of work, I suggest you don't go on the internet.

This is news, but the man beaten to the point of brain death by people screaming I hate white people is not. Fuck the media.

The title to your article is misleading. Not, that anyone is expecting New Times to be unbiased or represent facts with substance, we all know that's not your style; however, at the very least you could generate headlines that aren't totally obtuse and misleading. For Example: "Shellie and her Dad versus George: Nothing to see here," "Dirty Divorcing," "The Shellie Zimmerman who Cried 'Wolf,'" "Daily Zimmerman Fodder." I could go on, but you see where this is going.

No, seriously, really. You can't just call the police and completely misrepresent the situation.

Than your original comment should also mention that. Or not mention a gun at all. Not" threatening his wife with a gun" very poor reporting

If you read the police report you would see there was no gun found on his person. You might not like him but please get facts right. Not your made up bullshit.
