These are the pantry's actual shelves.

The Pantry's Facebook page makes it very clear: "Calling all supporters," it reads. "We have NO FOOD on our shelves. We are in need ASAP of an emergency donation of funds or food or our clients will NOT EAT in September."

The Pantry of Broward helps seniors who are on fixed incomes and/or raising their grandchildren. It provides 55-pound boxes of food to these families each month. But this month, shelves are so bare, the organization doesn't have enough supplies to deliver.

Kathleen Lowe of Best Roofing says she took a tour and was shocked to see the empty shelves. Her company is doing a food drive and accepting donations at 1600 NE 12th Terrace in Fort Lauderdale. (Call 954-941-9111.) Kids at Stranahan High are also pitching in with a food drive.

Donations can also be made online or directly to the Pantry, located at 610 NW Third Ave., Fort Lauderdale. Call 954-358-1481.

Items needed include:
- peanut butter and jelly
- pasta and sauce
- Hamburger Helper
- mac & cheese
- tuna fish or other canned meats
- nonfrosted cereal

I am sure Publix and Wal Mart have a few throw aways.
