Police are confirming that George Zimmerman helped rescue a family of four who were trapped in an overturned truck in Florida between the intersection of I-4 and route 417 in Sanford.

Since being acquitted for shooting and killing Trayvon Martin the past two weeks, Zimmerman has been in hiding.

The site of the accident is less than a mile from where Zimmerman shot Trayvon.

According to the Sanford Police Department, Zimmerman pulled the people from the overturned truck sometime last week.

The Florida Highway Patrol is now handling the case, according to Sanford police captain Jim McAuliffe.

The Sanford Police Department issued a news release with details on the rescue:

On Wednesday, July 17 at approximately 5:45 p.m., the Seminole County Sheriff's Office (SCSO) responded to a single car accident in the area of 1-4 and SR 46 in Sanford, Fla. A blue Ford Explorer SUV had travelled off the road and rolled over. There were four occupants inside -- two parents and two children.

SCSO's responding deputy reported that when he arrived, two men -- one of whom was George Zimmerman -- had already helped assist the family by getting them out of the overturned vehicle.

Zimmerman was not a witness to the crash and left after making contact with the deputy. There were no report [sic] of injuries to the vehicle occupants

This marks the first time Zimmerman has emerged from hiding since his acquittal on July 13.

No word yet on if Zimmerman dialed 911 a bunch of times before taking action.

Meanwhile, more good news for George: A PAC called The Buckeye Firearms Association is raising money to buy him a new gun since the Justice Department kept the one he used to shoot Trayvon with while it investigates him.

The grandmother of the father who is in life for prison who left the two boys behind was on fox news talking about how grateful she was to Mr. Zimmerman. The Sanford police confirmed Zimmerman testified in a case against the police department of police brutality on behalf of a homeless black man. Just a little research http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/trayvon-martin-shooting-george-zimmerman-protested-treatment-homeless-black-man-police-father-article-1.1057162

Given the nature of Zimmerman's defense team, I wouldn't be shocked if this was a manufactured story/PR stunt. But if the account is true, I'll certainly give credit where it is due.

He has always tried to help people, he mentored young black children for goodness sake, even took them in so they would have a place to live. Went to battle against the police for them beating a homeless black man. The whole neighborhood watchman thing was to help his community, it went wrong, very wrong but I believe he really thought he was going to be killed, the sounds of his screams reflected that he was in fear for his life.

I hope the truck said "fuck you" as soon as he got out of his car. Seriously, does this teletubby realize he's not part of Marvel Comics? I hope he follows a tornado next time.
