George Zimmerman Rescue Victims Don't Want to Portray Him as a Hero

On Monday, news broke that George Zimmerman emerged from hiding to rescue a family of four from an overturned SUV after an accident.

And apparently, the couple Zimmerman rescued had planned a news conference for today. But they changed their minds because they don't want to portray him as a hero.

Oh, snap.

Mark and Dana Gerstle had planned to hold the presser at the Orlando law office of Zimmerman's attorney, Mark O'Mara.

As a spokesperson for O'Mara put it, the couple didn't want to be in the spotlight.

But according to the Daily Mail, though the Gerstles are thankful to Zimmerman, they don't want to "talk publicly about him for fear they will be accused of portraying him as a hero."

Of course, part of that is because they fear a news conference praising Zimmerman's efforts would likely backfire and bring about death threats.

Even so, Zimmerman could have, at the very least, been hailed as a local hero, if only he hadn't gone and shot an unarmed black kid and gotten away with it.

According to the Sanford Police Department, Zimmerman pulled the family from the overturned truck between the intersection of I-4 and Route 417, which is less than a mile from where Zimmerman shot and killed Trayvon Martin.

Zimmerman and another man helped the couple and their two children out of the flipped SUV.

It was the first time Zimmerman had emerged from hiding since his acquittal on July 13.

Another SUV rollover. Can someone explain to SUV owners that you can't drive like it's a Z4

I agree with the Family, no need for GZ to be seen as a HERO.

Nope, all they ruled was "not guilty" which is not the same thing as innocent. All they ruled was that there was reasonable doubt.

Damned If You Do and Damned If You Don't I wrote a song just for this reason........I guess that proves that maybe he is the type of guy that is always trying to help people he made a mistake like we all do I'm sure he would do it different if he could........I guess if Trayvon raped a girl they would have been saying he didn't do enough.....Damned If You Do ect...

Their concern is definitely legitimate. They would probably be getting some hate for trying to claim he is a hero after this verdict, while the hate/death threats would suddenly be easing off of him after being put in a different light. It would be like a seesaw, basically. I can't say I blame them for deciding against going through with the press statement, putting the spotlight on themselves.

such a misleading headline. sounds like their reasoning relates much more to not wanting to receive death threats. there are people out there far more dangerous, malicious, vindictive, and flat-out crazy than george zimmerman.

Good thing killing the only witness makes "self defense" a slam dunk
