Two Men Killed After Being Struck by Porsche; Driver May Have Been Under the Influence
Fort Lauderdale Police say 22-year-old Alyza Rachel Russell was driving west on Broward Boulevard in a 2012 Porsche Panamera around 2 in the morning when she plowed through some bushes and into a parking lot, slamming into two men and killing them both.
One of the men was dragged under the Porsche for some distance.
According to police, Russell was "under the influence of an unknown substance."
According to the Sun Sentinel, the crash happened shortly before 2:15 a.m. in a parking lot at the intersection of Broward Boulevard and SW Fifth Avenue, east of Interstate 95, near downtown Fort Lauderdale.
The tragic scene at the parking lot is of a mangled bike, a black cap, and a pair of white sneakers strewn about near a pool of blood. A pole near the bushes Russell crashed through has a handwritten message reading, "God took an angel."
That very same pole also has red-light cameras mounted on them, and it's very likely they captured footage of the crash as it happened.
Police say footage from the cameras is being held until the case is closed.
According to the Sun Sentinel, Russell has been in trouble with her driving in the past.
Back in January, she entered a plea of no contest for a charge of driving without a valid driver's license. At the time, she was driving a 2009 Porsche.
Investigators on the scene examined the Porsche and then had it impounded. There were reportedly two other passengers in the car with Russell at the time of the crash.
Police say Russell and her passengers are cooperating with investigators. There was also a woman with the two victims at the time of the crash who is also being questioned.
Any charges Russell may face are pending the result of a toxicology report.
