New, Anti-Gay Boy Scout Splinter Group Is Taking Suggestions for Names

Some say there really is no theory of evolution, just a list of creatures Chuck Norris allowed to live.

Yet when the Boy Scouts voted last week to allow gay scouts in the organization, it proved that Norris -- in real life, an outspoken conservative who has advocated the exclusion of gay kids -- cannot kill off everything he disdains.

But since parts of America are not a democracy but a Chucktatorship, Norris may still get his dream of having an organization that's biased against certain children. A splinter scouting group is being formed, and dagnabbit, they ain't lettin' any gay kids in.

In response to the decision of the Boy Scouts of America, OnMyHonor.Net was created with the goal of forming an alternative group of scouts who disallow homosexuality. John Stemberger, an Orlando area attorney, a lifetime member of the National Eagle Scout Association, and a noted homophobe, is behind it.

When Boys Scouts of America decided to admit gay children (though gay leaders are still excluded), he called it "a very sad day for America."

Stemberger, who was named president of the Florida Family Policy Council in 2004 and one of Orlando Magazine's top 50 most powerful people in Central Florida in 2009, is now taking taking suggestions on his site for his new organization.

You can already tell this group is going to be really cool, hip, fun, and "with it" by the names that have been suggested, which so far include:

Sons of Bravery

Faith Based Boys (Yes, let's incorporate the church because, you know, nothing gay ever happened there.)

Reformed Scouts of America

Ready Rangers

Traditional Scouters of America (TSA... Sharing an acronym with the people who pat you down and violate you before you board aircraft.)

Surely, kids will be clamoring to be a part of this thing.

Say "Meatspin" should be their new name. Or "Lemonparty".

I am a member of the Mormon faith and I am disgusted beyond words to see the political posturing the LDS Church has played all in an effort to gain favor with a social and political movement. If you believe values and principles don't change ("God is the same yesterday, today, and forever") then how can a Church sell out its values and moral principles so easily as this?

I commend those religious institutions that still stand for their values and beliefs, despite a world whose moral compass has been completely trampled beneath our feet. The world mocks, laughs, and uses the false notion of "discrimination" to continue to erode long-standing principles of morality and purity. I say let them mock!

I’m Gay and I was in the Boy Scouts. My troop was sponsored by St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Potomac, Maryland. Admittedly this was back in the late 1960s to early 1970s, when the modern Gay rights movement was in its infancy, and the prospect of Gay youth “coming out” was unthinkable. But the fact remains that my sexual orientation was irrelevant to scouting activities, and I imagine the same went for the majority of boys who were Straight (i.e. heterosexual). The official Boy Scout Handbook was not heterocentric. The issue of sexual orientation, one way or another, was simply irrelevant.

Gay boys and men have always participated in the BSA and always will, regardless of the official policy. I’m just glad the when boys in the scouts start coming to grips with a different sexual orientation (usually while in their early teens), they will not be kicked out when they need that social support structure the most. And if some people are so consumed by their animosity toward Gay people that they choose to leave the BSA, they won’t be missed.

This is not to say that individual Boy Scouts, regardless of their sexual orientation, shouldn't be held accountable for inappropriate behavior. They should be. But sexual orientation in and of itself should not be a barrier to scouting.

-would you let your girls attend a over night camp out with men as chaperones ?

I know I would not let my son attend a overnight with a gay chaperone.

@stevejameson64 Apparently girls can be just as strong-willed and able as boys. The only exceptions have to do with upper body strength. So maybe the sexist attitudes need to go?

@stevejameson64 Do those values include (from the Old Testament) stoning rebellious children, killing those who work on the Sabbath, only having a payment if a woman is forced to miscarry versus if her child is killed, giving less value to newborn babies/fetuses than grown children (!!!!)???
