Five pit bulls similar to this one attacked and mauled Brandy Bookamer.
A Daytona Beach woman was attacked and mauled by a pack of pit bulls as she shielded her 6-year-old daughter from the animals.

Brandy Bookamer, 27, went for a stroll with her daughter by their home on Holly Lane in Daytona North on Sunday evening when they were suddenly and viciously attacked by five pit pulls.

Bookamer was airlifted to a hospital in serious condition after suffering multiple lacerations and puncture wounds, according to Flagler County deputies

During the attack, Bookamer shielded the pack of dogs from her daughter and told the little girl to run home.

The girl was not injured in the attack.

Bookamer suffered severe injuries to her arms, legs, and buttocks.

She was taken by ambulance to the Flagler County Airport and then airlifted by Volusia County Sheriff's Office Air One to Halifax Hospital, where she received stitches for her multiple injuries.

After the attack, Flagler County Sheriff's Office deputies found the alleged dogs at a home in the 6200 block of Mahogany Boulevard and notified animal control officials, who took possession of the animals.

Fortunately, Bookamer's injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. Her daughter, whose life she saved, is currently staying with her grandparents.

It's crazy to ignore the threat that some breeds represent. Anyone ever hear of a mauling by chihuahua or terrier? Yes, the owners have some responsibility, but the lethal potential cannot be overlooked. No different than having a pet tiger. Very small breeds are simply incapable of killing or seriously injuring anyone bigger than a very small child.

Owner needs to be held responsible.  fines and jail time.

This is the only recourse for  dangerous dogs and owners that are unable to contain them, and protect the community.

This woman, (as far as I know) did nothing to deserve this attack.  owner should pay.

While anti BSL, pro pit advocates celebrate what they consider victories. We mourn another death . Thus far this year there have been 12 fatal dog attacks in the U.S. In all but one of these deaths only one breed (type) of dog has been the killer . Please Pray for the families and loved ones of the following .(Rachael Honabarger, 35 years old)(Beau Rutledge, 2 years old)(Jordyn Arndt 4 years old )( Claudia Gallardo, 38 years old ) (Tyler Jett, 7 years old ) (Monica Renee Laminack, 21 months old) (Daxton Borchardt, 14 months old ) ( Ryan Maxwell, 7 years old ) (Isaiah Aguilar, 2 years old ) ( Esile Grace, 91 years old ) (Christian Gormanous, 4 years old ) (Betty Todd, 65 years old ) What kind of people find celebration while lives are lost. At this rate within the next 10 to 20 days We will be adding another innocent victim to this list. Please join Us to bring regulation that will reduce the mauling and killing.https://www.facebook.com/ProtectChildrenFromPitBulls?hc_location=timeline

Despite negative comments, yes yours, Rob Schwartz, that is not what pit bulls do! My prayers for a speedy recovery to the young mother & thank God her baby girl wasn't hurt. News media always presumes its a Pit Bull breed only when it comes to any type of attack. It has not been determined these dogs were in fact Pit Bulls or that they are vicious. Did u see these dogs & did you see them licking the shelter employee. Sad thing is these dogs & owner are neighbors, no prior reports filed by young ladies father, but now its said this has been happening a long time. Before you place blame & make accusations towards a particular breed, make sure you know all the facts. My family has had 3 Pits, raised with children since babies, never an incident..except for when a robber attacked my son, Pit bite intruder in butt. By no means am I trying to downplay this woman's injuries, I'm just saying get all the facts & stop labeling all Pit Bulls in this catagory.

I'm glad the little girl wasn't injured and I wish mom a swift recovery but like Jeremiah said... blame the owners not the breed. These dogs are NOT inherently dangerous. They are dangerous because they are purposefully trained by idiots to be dangerous.

Were the dog(s) involved officially a Pitbull or just a dog looked at and profiled as a Pitbull?

Nobody is surprised, It's just what pit bulls do...

@Diane Darby actually its exactly what pit bulls do.  PIT BULLS ATTACK PEOPLE.  duh.  how many times do you need to read about it.

And just because your kids have never been attacked (yet) doesn't mean it won't ever happen.

its like saying my house won't flood because I've never seen it.  (idiot logic).

@Cyn Der Rella agree, owner should pay ALL medical bills, plus lost wages, and serve some time in jail for allowing their dogs to attack.

-the failed to contain and protect the public from their dogs.  -doesn't matter the breed, the owner failed and needs to be held responsible.

It's always the owner's fault if the dogs are not contained on the owner's property. If someone gets bit on the owner's property, well, that's why he has the dogs.....

wrong!  blame the owners

@DogLover how narrow minded are you people? owners train these dogs to be vicious because of their strength. The dogs are used, and only know what they are taught. Any pitbull Ive ever met is a sook and loves people.  Not all dogs are the same, Get your facts straight.
