UPDATE [5:00 p.m.]:

Hans Huseby of Team Foot Works tells New Times that the Mercedes-Benz Corporate Run in West Palm Beach for Wednesday will go on as scheduled.

"The West Palm Beach Police Department held a meeting today, evaluated the situation and informed us the event can go on," Huseby says. "They will be adding additional security, but we are good to go."

In the wake of the tragic bomb attacks in Boston on Monday, organizers for the Mercedes-Benz Corporate Run have yet to cancel their marathons -- though they have expressed doubts that the races will go on.

According to WLRN, the organizers are rethinking whether to go on with their marathons, one of which is scheduled for Wednesday in West Palm Beach.

The other 5K race is scheduled for April 25th in Miami and, as our sister paper reported earlier, police presence at that marathon is expected to be elevated, should it not be canceled.

The events are expected to draw a lot of people, and event organizer spokesman Hans Huseby says the logistics of a race makes it tougher to keep secure due to its large crowds and the 5K course running through neighborhoods and residential streets.

Huseby didn't sound confident when talking about next week's race in Miami, calling it a "big can of worms."

"I'm not sure it's possible in Miami," he told WLRN. "Hopefully we can come up with answers today."

As of this afternoon, there's still no word if tomorrow's Mercedes-Benz Corporate run in West Palm Beach will be canceled.

Emails to Team Footworks, the event organizer, have gone unanswered.

The group's Facebook page has only been updated with an article from the Miami Herald about the Miami race, with no mention of West Palm Beach.
