Dear Stoner,

We understand how you're feeling. Dark and formidable challenges lay before you. While the rest of the nation -- especially Washington and Colorado -- takes strides to normalize diplomatic relations with marijuana, Florida has moved in the other direction.

Yesterday was the most recent declaration of war, but it wasn't the first. Last year, the state Legislature shot down a proposal for medical marijuana.

And there's much, much more.

All of it drives home one inescapable conclusion: Florida is America's Most Infamous Marijuana State.

5. Florida leads nation in indoor growing operations
More than California, which has twice the population and girth, Florida in 2010 had more indoor marijuana cultivation operations than any other state. Roughly 820 operations were sniffed out that year.

Most of the busts go down in South Florida, the DEA says, inside what it refers to as the South Florida High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area. Because we South Floridians run our AC all year 'round, the police aren't able to discern suspiciously high electrical bills, which normally highlight where da weed at. This attracts many folk looking to grow herb.

At least from a law-enforcement perspective, Florida today is a VERY pot-unfriendly place.  This contrasts greatly with the way things used to be when I first moved here in the early 80s, when the scene was a lot looser.

No Federal bureaucracy has ever voluntarily down-sized...and neither will the DEA.
Their efforts need to be re-directed...maybe, hunt down some real criminals. You know...bank robbers, kidnappers, murderers...those kind of folks.

But, of course, the pot bust is one of the easiest and safest to make...per the DOJ's own statistics, the vast majority of drug offenders are non-violent.

Law enforcement needs to re-direct its focus on crime...to those that are REAL crimes.

I was in Federal Prison for 5 years for a marijuana offense. No, it was not for simple possession. I was arrested aboard a Lockheed PV2 in Marianna, Florida...charged and convicted for conspiracy to import and distribute 12,000 pounds of marijuana.

As my years in prison rolled by, what I did see were armed bank robbers, coming and going...while I still sat there for marijuana. Most of the bank robbers only spent 17 to 24 months. But, I and my fellow 'drug offenders,'...we stayed for YEARS.

I wrote about the escapades that led to my incarceration. I admit, I had a great time. No one was injured, no one was killed, firearms were not involved...there were no victims.

We were Americans...doing what Americans do best...living free.

Ok this is total bull to waste time on bongs. The top advocate was not charge for growing 24 plants. why go backwards med pot is needed. Also why should it matter where you live if you can smoke or not. (NOT FAIR) I am a taxpayer and what this now not later . An adult should be able to make the choice for them self to smoke or not!!!!!! Stop  the bull and let the adults make the choice. More money in one year   in Taxes, Then the Lottery makes in 5 years. So why not do it Stuck up Florida!!

If you look at the gate way theory its about saving us from harder drugs like heroin, now last year there were less than 350 OD from Heroin and the drug war  real cost to society is about  $100 Billion dollars if you were to divided  100 Billion Dollars by 350 you get   $285,714,285 for a single heroin user there were no deaths from Cannabis.  In 40 plus years people have not stop using cannabis so far.  Cannabis Seed vendor Marc Emery who is now waiting for the US government to transfer him back to Finnish his time in Canada, prove how futile and wasteful  this prohibition is.  Any Grandma with one female seed and some rooting hormone can clone a  plantation in no time and have a safe effective medicine.

"More Rastafarians live here than anywhere else in America." Good news.  Now The Crier of the House can get some federal legislation going to legalize all this weed.  His daughter and new husband can't wait.
