Florida has come a long way in the past few years when it comes to gay marriage and marriage equality.

According to the latest Public Policy Poll, a whopping 75 percent of Florida voters support gay marriage.

This is a seismic shift from not long ago, when the majority of Floridians didn't want gay people gaying up the state with their icky gayness because of Bible reasons.

It's been a few years, though. Maybe that majority has died off?

According to the poll, 80 percent of those queried say they support either gay marriage or civil unions.

Weirdly enough, 74 percent of those who support gay marriage or civil unions were Republicans, while 72 percent were Democrats.

*record scratch*

When it came to answering questions about the specific domestic partner bill that was recently introduced in the Florida Legislature, though 60 percent of those polled said they had no opinion, with 23 percent supportive and 17 percent opposed to it. Although, as the PPP points out, most of the people polled haven't been paying much attention to the Legislature.

Who the hell does?

Either way, this is a massive shift in the right direction for Florida.

In 2008, the Washington Post conducted a similar poll and found that a whopping 62 percent of Florida voters were against the idea of gay marriage or at least wanted to limit gay marriage (whatever crap that means).

In 2012, Quinnipiac released a poll saying that 43 percent Floridians supported gay marriage.

But this Public Policy poll tells us a majority of Floridians now either support gay marriage or some kind of civil union, leaving 23 percent clutching their torches and refusing to give gays any kind of legal recognition of same-sex couples' relationships. Because sodomy is the devil's double-bacon cheeseburger!

75% support gay marriage? I hope they take that to the voting booth. The Jebster and Marco, the anchor baby, won't stand a chance.

I support their right to marry.... I do not support a right for them to adopt. If they cannot create a human life, that is to say, have the plumbing which could possibly create another human life.... They should in no way be allowed to adopt.

@1blackhand1 It is amusing since I will guess that your against abortion as well.  So just who is going to adopt all those unwanted kids?

@1blackhand1 I don't support MARRIAGE.  I support Civil Unions.

Marriage is between a man and woman.  legal protection I can support, but not marriage.  that term should not be diluted.

@1blackhand1 Why can't/shouldn't a gay couple adopt? I'm not challenging, I simply want to know the reasons behind your opinion.

@1blackhand1 Millions of straight couples are unable to create children for various health and "bad plumbing" reasons. They can't adopt either?
