Hurricane Basketball: UM Drops After Loss to Wake Forest
The Hurricanes' first lost in 2013 didn't come from Duke, UNC or any other ACC heavies predicted to take down the squad. The team lost on the road at Wake Forest, 80-65. Predictably, the outcome had an impact on the latest men's hoops rankings. The Hurricanes ranked fifth in this week's Associated Press poll, dropping down from an all-time-high number two the previous week.
Even though they're no longer rocking a perfect ACC record, the 'Canes still boast the best conference numbers. Though to be fair, it has been awhile since the team has pulled off an impressive win -- basically since sinking North Carolina at home 87-61.
After that command performance, they've eked out decisions against FSU, Clemson, and Virginia by small change. Hey brotha, a win's a win. But the Hurricanes haven't exactly been firing from every cylinder in those victories.
Next up for the 'Canes is a home game tomorrow against Virginia Tech.
Then comes the biggie -- a road rematch against Duke. Cue the scary horror movie strings. The Blue Devils are definitely sharpening their knives for game. UM's late January win against Duke knocked from the team the number one position. That was the win that also basically started the ball rolling for Jim Larranaga's team, at least in terms of pulling in national attention.
