FAU's James Tracy: More Media Conspiracies and Lunacy. Fire This Guy Fast. UPDATED

Turns out James Tracy, the Florida Atlantic University professor who theorized the Sandy Hook massacre might be a mass media conspiracy, has a history of paranoid weirdness.

Students say the guy went off in class. And his academic work hints at how someone could go so off the tracks. In a book review, he talks about how academics don't get social activism -- how they are disengaged. With annoyance, he describes the "intellectual remove from the interests of social activists."

Then there is the really weird piece in which the guy actually theorizes pharmaceutical companies create disease to get rich. Don't believe me? Here is a little something from the abstract: "The pharmaceutical industry acts to maximize profits through marketing efforts and the creation of diseases as platforms for the expansion of drug product markets."

In a study of the Greek financial crisis, he begins his descent into the lunacy of blaming the news media for events they only describe. "US outlets presented the financial crisis in narrow terms that blamed the event on alleged character flaws and ineptitudes of a nation and its people," he writes. This loon does his best to figure out a way to blame media for events they have no part in.

Of course, he doesn't hate everything. In a work on dub and reggae, he compares the music of artists like Bob Marley to "19th-century Spiritualists' attempted correspondences with the ethereal." This is just weird.

And while I am a great fan of academic freedom, I also recognize that professors shape the way our kids think. And if their work amounts to second-rate thought and paranoid rantism, they should go.

FAU has already disassociated itself from Tracy. Spokeswoman Lisa Metcal told Fox News: "James Tracy does not speak for the university. The website on which his post appeared is not affiliated with FAU in any way. As for any previous disciplinary actions at FAU, we do not comment on personnel matters."

I am saying the university should move to get this guy away from our kids.

Now.

Update 12:55 p.m.: The president of FAU, Mary Jane Saunders, just issued a statement separating herself from Tracy:
I am sure that many of you are aware of the recent comments by a Florida Atlantic University faculty member regarding the tragic events that occurred at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, on December 14. I want to make it clear that those views and opinions are not shared by Florida Atlantic University, and I am personally saddened by any media stories that have added to the pain felt by the victims' families.

FAU joins the entire nation and people around the world in feeling profound grief for the lives lost on that awful day. Our hearts break for the victims, their loved ones and friends, and all the people of Newtown. The world lost innocent children and brave adults whose lives were dedicated to education. In the aftermath of this terrible tragedy, we learned of the tremendous heroism of the Sandy Hook teachers and administrators. We admire their courage in the face of unspeakable horror and we honor their memory.

Mary Jane Saunders, Ph.D.
President

Fire him. Now. Not for his opinions and bizarre theories, obviously, but a guy dumb enough to believe in a Sandy Hook set up has no business teaching at a university.

Florida has a long rich history of repressing Freedom of Speech when Anyone has a conflicting opinion with the Main Stream Media's  (MSM) Propaganda . I  introduce : University of South Florida computer engineering professor Sami Al-Arian . Anyone Brave enough to Speak Out against the "Tribe" will be demonized . Sami has been found NOT GUILTY on ALL counts , yet is still imprisoned .  It is common knowledge that 9-11 was a false flag attack perpetrated by the C I A /Mossad with the MSM Propaganda Machine . If you Choose to believe anything they spew forth ,you Choose to bury your head in the sand .Alex Jones's interview on Piers Morgan's CNN show , Like the U S Presidential Debates , was a staged Media event to feed the dumbed down masses what they are allowed to hear . "This or That "  Stay Inside the Box .NO other thoughts are Allowed . No other candidates opinions are Allowed . No place for Freedom in The United States of Israel .

The funny thing is the right wingers who think this guy is right!  Actually defending this nut.  I wonder when FAUX will finally come out and attack this guy.  They love going after anyone they think is a communist or a Black Panther, so why not Tracy?

It is clear to me that you may be too obstinate to consider an opinion that differs from your own; however, I would like to point out that professors opening up the floor to alternate scenarios are actually just demonstrating analytical ability and promoting critical thinking. To me, that is what paying thousands of dollars for an education is about; not being spoon fed whatever it is we are told to believe without other possible explanations. After all, the scenario that Dr. Tracy is offering is not impossible, right? Your article is just you ironically calling someone with a higher title than you a loon and stating your fear of opening the eyes of students to opposing views. It doesn't sound like Dr. Tracy is the paranoid one here.

After reading this article, I can't quite take the opinions of the author at all serious or analytical in any way. Maybe it is his inherent ability to overlook spell check, or the fact that he generally believes the media isn't biased, but to call the man a loon seems to be as they say "the teapot calling the kettle black." Professor Tracey was actually one of the best professors I had at FAU, and with further research you might see that his pharmaceutical insinuations aren't too far off. But look at me over here, falling into the trap of critiquing the journalism integrity of a New Times contributor.

Lie and cover, lie and cover.  The only thing this admin is good at.  They will stop at nothing to advance the twisted plans they have for us all..  I support James Tracy for simply asking the right questions.  They don't care to answer them, they just want to shut him up quick!! Make people think he's a loon for simply considering the facts.  What a SHAME!!

Boo and a pox be on you Chuck Strouse. Nothing wrong with an open mind and a dissenting opinion.

Just because a viewpoint is contrarian doesn't mean it demonstrates analytical ability or critical thinking. People would be calling Prof Tracey a genius if he was able to prove what he says, but all he does is present alternate viewpoints without sound arguments. Also, there's nothing ironic about calling someone with a title a loon.

It's "journalistic" integrity not "journalism" integrity. Also, you can't take the opinions ... "seriously" not "serious." I wouldn't bother except you don't take the blogger seriously (!) because of his misspellings so why should anyone take you seriously because of your inherent grammatical errors. But then again, you were a student of Prof Tracey.
