Rick Scott Denies Request to Extend Early Voting by One Day

Don't want to wait in unnecessarily long lines to vote? Too bad! NYAA!!

During the 2008 elections, early voting lines went long. So then-Gov. Charlie Christ extended early voting, allowing more people the chance to vote. That was pretty much when the Republicans started to hate him because a lot of them blamed Obama winning Florida on that move. Because everyone being allowed a chance to cast a vote is no reason to elect a president!

This year, early voting days have been cut short -- from 14 days to eight days. As a result, lines have been longer and wait times -- particularly in Palm Beach County -- have gone up to up to two hours.

So Democrats, led by Florida Democratic Party Chairman Rod Smith and the League of Women Voters, asked Gov. Rick Scott to do what Crist did in '08 and extend early voting. To one whole day.

And, of course, Scott and his fellow Florida Republicans agreed to do so.

HA. HA. HA. Just kidding.

"In 2008, Floridians had 14 days of early voting -- and Florida's then Republican governor still found it necessary to extend early voting," said Smith in a statement. "The long lines at the polls show it was clearly a mistake for the GOP controlled Legislature in Tallahassee to cut early voting in half -- but it is past time for Governor Scott to show some leadership and fix that mistake."

Said the League of Women Voters of Florida: "[The group] is extremely concerned that such long waits are discouraging to voters whose schedules and or physical conditions cannot accommodate these types of delays."

But Rick Scott and the Republicans ain't care about no long lines. And seriously. So many Floridians are out of jobs, what are they doing all day?? NO EXCUSES!

"Early voting will end Saturday night," Scott told reporters in response to the request. "But I want everybody to get out to vote."

Republican Party Executive Director Mike Grissom said it was wrong "for one side to demand that we break the law because they feel like they are losing."

Yeah! We implemented a law cutting down early voting by a week and eliminated voting on Sundays when most black churches traditionally gathered to go vote as a group because of reasons. And now it's the law, so. SUCK IT, LOSERS!

Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll also shrugged off the request.

"It's not the end yet, and we still have Election Day as well, when people certainly can turn out to vote," she said.

You hear that, Florida? You're just gonna have to stand in line for two hours and not go on Sunday or take the day off from work to go Tuesday (that is, if you have a job) and vote. AND YOU WILL LIKE IT. No way the GOPers are giving this one to Obama again because people were able to do their civic duty in a convenient manner.

LEARDERSHIPZ!

Still don't understand how R. Scott won the election, but this is voter suppression at it's worse.  Scared Dems are gonna carry the state.

Really? Did you expect him to say anything differently? You'd think he'd want to give everyone an opportunity to vote, I've tried every day and the lines are so long that I just can't wait. For some people there is only one thing that matters....Power.

@ciaralavelle After five hours, I had to start tweeting the absurdities. The famous guy next to me made it interesting.
