Charges Against BSO Sergeant: "October Surprise" Against Lamberti?

Sheriff Al Lamberti's Democratic challenger Scott Israel looked like a long-shot candidate, but he's been pulling out all the stops recently, flinging whatever poo will stick to Lamberti, and the Sheriff isn't ducking fast enough.

In fact, the sheriff has skipped out on two debates with Israel, one on Channel 10 and the other in front of the NAACP.

The latest gift to Israel: the sheriff's close associate in the department, pictured walking next to him in a campaign commercial, has been charged with falsifying records after a plea deal.

Sgt. Mitch Kogod was making $85,000 a year working on Oakland Park and was known as one of the closest deputies to Lamberti.

The charges center around alleged off-duty "double-dipping." For example, at an LA Fitness club he was being paid by the sheriff's office to serve court papers, while at the same time he was moonlighting doing security for the club, according to the South Florida Times.

The sheriff's office did not release the terms of the plea deal. If he hadn't struck a deal, Kogod would have faced multiple felony counts.

Israel might have known this was coming, in the good old Broward-politics style. On Tuesday, he posted this update to Facebook: "Everyone loves surprises!! We're hearing everyone's going to be seeing some surprises starting today!!"

"Bet Lamberti is sweating today!!" Israel's campaign wrote on Facebook after the charges were announced.

Kogod was previously under investigation for giving favors to Dolphins players.

Israel might be way behind in fundraising and major endorsements, but he's not shying away from using negative associations like this against the sheriff. Check out this recent seedy ad from a group that supports Israel:

Lamberti has done many questionable things and his false advertising against Scott Israel stands as proof of it. The October surprise could be Lamberti's self destructive campaign, or it could be the recent revelations that his campaign has been funded by a mob company that dumped toxic waste in Palm Beach. Susan Israel speaks up about how she feels:

Lamberti has plenty of followers, paid followers that is like the guy with his caps locked. Did that guy even bother to read this article?  In my view, all of Lamberti's irty dealings have reached a critical mass. He will not receive the black vote, he will not received the police vote (the rank and file are still angry they had no say in the PBA endorsement) He will not receive votes from those unfortunate victims of Scott Rothstein'sPonzi scheme, you know, the money from which got Lamberti elected in the first place and Lamberi's continued association with criminals (like the above mentioned TV commercial and last month's campaign advisor with the long felony prison record together make Al Lamberti unqualified to continue in office. If the voters don't stop him on November 6th, some higher authority will get him later.

SCOTT ISRAEL IS THE SCUM OF THE EARTH. I BET HE HASN'T TOLD THE TRUTH SINCE GRADE SCHOOL, IF HE DID EVEN THEN. AS A DEMOCRAT I AM PROUDLY VOTING FOR LAMBERTI AGAIN. I DID IT FOUR YEARS AGO AND FEEL EVEN STRONGER ABOUT IT NOW. I SEE HIS PROGRAMS EVERYWHERE. I SEE HIM INVOLVED IN THE COMMUNITY. I WILL SUPPORT HIM AGAIN AND HOPE U DO TOO!

Favors?  Like blow jobs?  Now that's what I call serving the public.
