Hurricane Sandy Bringing Lots of Wind and Rain Today

If you've been outside yet, you've noticed a couple of things. It's raining. It's windy. It's a little chilly. And it's raining. Mostly, though, it's raining.

Yes, the crappy weather this morning and pretty much throughout the rest of today is courtesy of Hurricane Sandy, who is right now plowing through Cuba as a category 2 hurricane. Her winds reached 115-mph at one point, while also leaving coastal flooding around Kingston, Jamaica yesterday.

Our area is under a tropical storm warning that extends north to Flagler Beach, with conditions getting worse throughout the day, particularly in Palm Beach County and the Treasure Coast.

Fun!

At 8 a.m. this morning, the National Hurricane Center said Sandy was moving north at 18 mph between the northeastern coast of Cuba and the Bahamas. It had weakened, but not by much, with winds down to 105 mph.

For us, that means winds are kicking up at 10 to 15 mph and pretty much are expected to go up to as much as to 21 to 26 mph this afternoon, with gusts reaching up to 37 mph.

So, an already wet and windy morning is about to get a tad worse.

The good news is things are expected to clear up by Saturday, and the weekend forecast is expected to be sunny and pleasant.

Until then, be careful not to be whisked away by the wind when you open up your umbrella.
