How Republican Is Sheriff Al Lamberti?

From Scott Israel's Facebook page...
It's high-octane campaign season, and Democratic sheriff candidate Scott Israel is hammering the incumbent, Al Lamberti, for his and his underlings' close association with convicted Ponzi schemer Scott Rothstein. That's only a little hypocritical, seeing as Rothstein firm money was directed toward Israel as well. But Israel is also criticizing Lamberti for something else: his party affiliation.

Lamberti is a Republican sheriff in a Democratic county, which meant it made a lot of political sense when he stated that he'd like the sheriff's office to be nonpartisan. (Guys, I'm only a Republican because I have to be... swear!)

But lately, he's been looking a little more Red.

This could be because Lamberti anticipates a lot of Republicans heading to the polls in November to kick out Obama and vote down the ticket. Or maybe he's just taking the support where he can get it.

Last night, Lamberti was the keynote speaker at a meeting of the Broward Republican Executive Committee. The Broward Tea Party has endorsed Lamberti in the general election, and he's been prominently calling himself "Republican for Broward County Sheriff" in campaign literature.

"There's nothing political about being sheriff. No matter what you do, it's not Democrat, it's not Republican, it's just being the sheriff," Lamberti told the Sun-Sentinel back in 2010.

Both sheriff candidates have a strange relationship with political parties. Scott Israel used to be a Republican and was a member of the Republican Executive Committee before which Lamberti spoke last night. He changed to Democrat to challenge Lamberti in the 2008 election.

Executive Committee Chairman Richard DeNapoli says that this isn't Lamberti's first time speaking to the members and that the group is supporting Lamberti because "he's in it for the right reasons; he's our sheriff." DeNapoli says that Lamberti is "not a highly partisan type of individual" and that the Republican committee is one stop among many for the sheriff.

But Israel, when he's not making Rothstein allusions on his Facebook page, is pointing out Lamberti's Republican leanings, comparing him to Mitt Romney and the unpopular governor, Rick Scott.

The other Democratic challenger, Louie Granteed, who was felled by Israel in the primary, got in some hot water for calling himself a "lifelong Democrat" when voter registration records seemed to reveal that he too had dabbled in Red.

So Lamberti's Claiming he's Not a republican?  and didn't he promise not to make his office about politics? Then why is he courting the republican executive committee and getting endorsed by the tea-party? What sense does that make? Taking money from white collar criminals like Rothstein... and then his wife beating, coke smuggling scumbag ex-con political advisor Bill lewis... Really? My mother used to say; "you're judged by the company you keep". Do we want to trust the nation's second largest police force in the hands of a guy who has such poor judgement, as to not only break his own promises; but to break his own offices policies about associating with known felons? Taking money from Rothstein, employing a convicted felon until he beats up his wife... This is the guy the people of broward county want in charge of BSO? I don't think so.  Get rid of Dirty Lamberti!

Israel could not possibly be as dirty as Lamberti, whose main donor last election was Scott Rothstein. We all see how that ended. Lamberti openly associates with felons and has no shame.

Broward politicians have become partisan schizo ala Charlie Crist. Why the governor would

funnel so much money into the Lamberti campaign is a good question. If this rag is any

indication, it would seem most of the general public know by now that Lamberti has been doing

some illegal things. The rank and file certainly knows it if you read LEO Affairs. They're none too

pleased that the PBA afforded them zero choice when it came to the Broward Sheriff

endorsement. Naturally it's a rigged game by the person in power. By this time Al's big sheriff's

badge has deflected so many bullets it's all dented in and ready to fail.

Doesn't BSO have a "do not associate with felons" policy in place? How is it that the sheriff can get away with it. Lamberti claims "you can't background check everybody" but as I recall ignorance was no excuse for violating the law. Time for Lamberti to submit his resignation.

I was contacted by a political operative wanting to enlist me in support of Israel.  When i asked why he mentioned all the negative comments very similar to the ones listed on this blog.  Seems to me that the mud-slinging machine of the Israel crusade is hard at play here.  If they are this dirty now what is one to expect later.  Once dirty always dirty, it's in the DNA.

The recent South Florida Times poll had Scott Israel with over 80% popularity, many of the comments indicated that respondents were just plain tired of Lamberti's close association with felons and the like. Lamberti had his run like Ken Jenne. Now it's time for him to fade away before he gets his next assignment at the Graybar hotel.

We have all read about multiple scandals the Lamberti administration has had. The Scott Rothstein Ponzi scheme hurt many people but Lamberti benefited from it. The "Superbowl Credentials"' scandal where Lamberti's actions were investigated by FDLE might have seemed like a trivial matter but it was inciteful to Lamberti's character or lack thereof. The prisoner that died in custody after being hog-tied and the subsequent cover-up. Now, Lewis beating his wife and the revelation that Lamberti never checked into his long rap sheet, these things cannot be tolerated. Three consecutive bad sheriffs is quite enough for Broward to endure.

If Lamberti is “calling himself ‘Republican for Broward County Sheriff’” in campaign literature, it looks like he’s abandoned his 2010 statement that the race for Sheriff is not Republican or Democrat.    How can we trust a public safety official who panders to political affiliations to get elected?  How can we trust Lamberti whose top paid political advisor, Republican  Bill Lewis was convicted of armed cocaine trafficking?

Rothstein and his associates spent nearly $200,000 to elect Republican Lamberti Sheriff in 2008.   In contrast, Rothstein gave Scott Israel only $3500 in the last weeks of the campaign.  Can you justify Sheriff Lamberti using his deputies for Rothstein’s personal Gestapo?  Money buys favors, no?

@doranash85 Felons like who? Rothstein... it's quite apparent that you dont know the facts, otherwise you'd know that Scott received money from rothstein AND his partner. Scott Israel has a blemished record with numerous IA complaints, Lamberti does not. Scott Israel doesn't pay for his illegitimate children or debts owed. The fact is you are uneducated with the facts. Obama will win the 2012 election, Lamberti will win the 2012 election and DWS will win the 2012 election... these are givens because they have the track record of success...

Sorry browarddem. Rothstein (yes a felon) contributed over $200,000 to LAMBERTI and he contributed about $10,000 to Israel. Perhaps you can do the "influence" math. Now let's look at Lamberit's campaign advisor who has a rap sheet as long as your arm who needed to be fired in a big hurry last week when he beat his wife. You can attack me but you can't change the facts. Lamberti is dirty.
