Cannabis Washes Ashore in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea

Every now and then, beachgoers run into debris that has washed up on shore: seaweed, jellyfish, seashells, and the occasional plastic CVS bag.

And now you can add weed to that list.

Early this morning, some people walking on the beach called 911 after they found 15-pound packages of cannabis in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea.

Someone either had themselves a helluva party on a boat or someone was bringing some stuff into town and saw the Coast Guard and decided to bail.

Either way, wet weed on the beach, everyone!

According to Broward Sheriff's spokeswoman Veda Coleman-Wright, the wet bags of weed washed ashore just north of Anglin's Pier near Commercial Boulevard.

"We're investigating and are asking anyone with information to call Broward Crime Stoppers," Coleman-Wright told the Sun Sentinel.

Narcotics detectives say the street value for the pot ranges from $50,000 to $75,000.

Coleman-Wright says that they haven't found anything more beyond the four packages and that deputies are not actively searching for anymore contraband.
