Allen West: Republicans Will Be Victorious in 2012 Because John Wayne Says So

Today, in nonsensical patriotic imagery from the GOP: Congressman Allen West has photoshopped himself into a picture with John Wayne.

The politician who goes SCUBA diving with American flags has now officially co-opted "The Duke." How long until Captain America shows up to a fundraiser playing Toby Keith songs on a guitar strung with hairs from Osama bin Laden's ponytail?

It's the first high-profile endorsement of the 2012 election cycle to be made by the ghost of a movie star, and it's definitely the first endorsement of an African-American by the ghost of a self-proclaimed white supremacist.

Wayne, an independent-minded conservative, had plenty of reasonable political views -- but he also declared, in his infamous 1971 interview with Playboy, that "we can't all of a sudden get down on our knees and turn everything over to the leadership of the blacks. I believe in white supremacy until the blacks are educated to a point of responsibility."

As for West, he's got ties to a white supremacist group too -- the Outlaws motorcycle gang, which West, at the very least, defended in a letter to a supporter.

He posted the Wayne photograph on his campaign's Facebook page last night with the message, "We will be the #1 target for Washington liberals because of our vocal opposition to their failed big government economic policies. We're ready for the fight, especially with a guy like this watching our back."

If that doesn't yet seem weird to you, consider that (a) John Wayne was not an actual Green Beret, and (b) John Wayne has been in a box in the ground for almost 33 years.

And this isn't the first time West has played up his status as the "#1 target for Washington liberals" -- though on a Lincoln Day speech in January, it wasn't "vocal opposition" that got him there. He blamed -- really -- "freedom."

At least he's got John Wayne to help out now.

My Voice Nation Help

Allen West prides himself on hating half of the voters in his district.

Pretty unbelievable that anyone would think that is a good thing, especially in a swing district.

But really, his rhetoric is meant to hide all of his actual votes in Congress.

Votes to kill Medicare.Votes to keep paying taxpayer money to the Oil industry.Votes to defund Planned Parenthood.Votes to repeal law that allows young people on their parents' insurance.Votes to repeal law that bans discrimination for pre-existing conditions.Votes for massive tax cuts for multi-billionaires.

On and on and on.

The entire Republican Party has gone way off the deep end and Allen West has been Wall Street's and the Republican Party establishment's biggest fan.

Written by a fool for fools to enjoy.  Nice hit job with little substance.  BTW do you know the difference between photo shop and having your picture taken next to a cardboard image?  I didn't think so.  I'm J.C.

Where's the substance in this comment, Jim, aside from the snide name-calling? I can't figure out what you're looking for, or what your criticism is.

Also, what IS the difference between Photoshop and having your picture taken next to a cardboard cutout? West is in a picture with John Wayne. Are you bothered by how Wayne got there?

I've been trying really hard to see where the joke is. I don't get it.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say West is probably aware the Duke's been dead for a few decades.
