Allen West Campaign Outraises Almost Every Other House Member; Money Coming From Everywhere

Allen West: Rolling in the deep (pockets).
Say what you will about Allen West as a legislator; as a fundraiser, there's no doubting that he's very, very good. Finance documents submitted to the Federal Election Commission on Tuesday complete a picture of 2011 fundraising that reveals he's raised about $5.8 million so far in the election cycle. That's more than any member of the U.S. House of Representatives other than Speaker John Boehner, according to data compiled by the Center for Responsive Politics.

Campaigns are required to disclose donor information for contributions totaling more than $200; of West's $5.8 million, just under $2.7 million is itemized as these large donations -- and a New Times geographic analysis reveals that well more than half of it isn't from Florida.

West has received at least $1,631 from every state in the republic. While he raised just over $1 million in Florida, he raked in more than a quarter million dollars in itemized donations from Texas and $213,000 from California. Below, you'll find a map of all of his donations; if it doesn't work properly in your browser or you'd like to see a bigger version, click here.

(Note: Of 2,600 individual donations from Florida, a randomly selected group of about 500 was omitted in order to efficiently display the map.)

Here are two other breakdowns of West's contributions that reflect contribution amounts rather than just location. Click on the slices of the pie to see details of the other states.

If you're bored of pie charts, here's a bubble graph that rearranges the data a little bit:
We'll keep digging through these to find out more about particular donors. One thing is certainly clear: Though West has to flee the district for a better chance of reelection, people across the country really like what they're seeing.

He had a minimal fine and RETIRED with full benefits, not "drummed out/dishonorable" I do not believe that putting the lives of those under your command ahead of your military career a crime.  I happen to have a rational mind, thx for asking.  Now, speaking of War Heroes & Warriors...how about my case about Sen Obama and his "do-nothing" time in Congress (as you so put it when describing West & Bachmann)??  Ohh...sorry, i forgot...Obama has never even shot a firearm much less serve.  He was doing coke in his 20's.  My bad.

The only reason the criminal West can raise this much cash is he is controversial and, instead of working, ALWAYS on FOX.  I can only hope wherever he runs away to, they realize what a joke this guy is.Seems like most of the tea bagger favorites are like this.  Just look at Bauchman.  She, just like our favorite war criminal, is rarely even doing the job that she gets paid for.  If it was not for FOX, all of these people would have been run out of town long ago for not doing anything.  Why are they getting paid?  If any of us spent all our time not actually working, we would be fired and never would be paid. So why are these tea baggers getting away with this?

Yeah so this Tea Party darling will soon swoop into yet another district where he does not live and spend money raised largely from out of state to represent the voice of the people in that district.  Ain't American Democracy great when outsiders with extreme political positions can steal your Representative voice right out from under you with money they raised elsewhere?

@Pete Pepper...Seriously??  On Jan 3, 2005 Barack Obama was sworn in as the Jr Senator from Illinois.  On Feb 10, 2007 (your a Lib, so I'll do the rough math...just over 2 years later) he announced he was a candidate for POTUS.  So...a mere 2 years into a 6 year term your pathetic Socialist President pretty much stopped representing his State to run for POTUS.  Ummm  THAT's a do-nothing representative.  But you'll come up with some stupid excuse, you Libs always do.....West is not a war criminal...catchy phrase though.  Cant be a war criminal with an honorable discharge & military pension.

It was not an honorable discharge.  AND he was fined.  He got off far too light but that happened thanks to Cheney and Bush jr trying to pull the same thing.  For any rational mind, he is indeed a war criminal.  Which is why he was drummed out of the military.
