Eighteen-year-old Christopher Thompson is dead after staging what one spokeswoman said was "like an ambush" on police Friday.
Palm Beach County sheriff's deputies were called shortly after 4 p.m. with reports of a man in
West Palm Beach's PBC Credit Union parking lot shooting a rifle into the air. When police arrived, Thompson shot at them, hitting a patrol car three times. Deputies shot back and killed him.
PBSO spokeswoman Teri Barbera said Monday that the investigation is ongoing and that police yet aren't sure why Thompson was there in the first place.
"He never entered the credit union, as far as we know," she said. "It was an immediate attack."
