Thirty hours and 30 minutes into 2012, the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office began investigating its first homicide of the year.

The PBSO announced this morning that 49-year-old James McMillan was working at his Belle Glade grocery store when he was shot during an attempted robbery around 6:30 a.m.

McMillan died after being airlifted to the Delray Medical Center.

McMillan was owner of the Alabama Georgia Grocery Store in the 700 block of Martin Luther King Boulevard and was reportedly a competitive bass fisherman.

The sheriff's office has described the gunman only as a black man wearing a mask.

The PBSO asks that you phone Crime Stoppers if you know anything.
