Former Fort Lauderdale Mayor Jim Naugle Backs Rick Santorum

Call it a match made in heaven.

Rick Santorum is best-known (among 20-something alt-weekly types, at least) as the evangelical homophobe who likened gay relationships to "man-on-dog" sex and consequently suffered the wrath of Dan Savage's revolting Google bomb.

Jim Naugle is known locally as the former mayor who wasn't afraid to piss people off with his strong opinions (our former reporter Bob Norman had a lovely visit with him in 2000). Those opinions have included paranoia about gay people having dirty sex in public.

Now Naugle and Santorum have come together, in the heat of the 2012 presidential race.
Naugle was at a Santorum campaign event in Coral Springs, announcing his "hearty" support for the former Pennsylvania senator. Naugle, a registered Democrat, supported family-man Mike Huckabee in the last Republican race.

Here's a feature we published about Naugle in 2007. The strongest backlash against him concerned a toilet, when the Fort Lauderdale City Commission was all set to pay a quarter-million bucks for a self-cleaning toilet on the beach. Then Naugle went and complicated things by saying he liked the toilet because it would deter "homosexual activity," which he believed was rampant in public spaces and restrooms.

The toilet plan fell through, and gay-rights activists initiated a "flush Naugle" campaign that involved sending him toilet paper. That's not all too different from sex columnist Dan Savage's response to Santorum's antigay remarks. Savage held a contest to see who could come up with the most vile definition for "Santorum." The rest, as they say...

Here are videos of Naugle and Santorum saying things that didn't exactly make gay people happy:

A very frothy mixture indeed.

Naugle is one of those Dixiecrat who hasn't got around to switching to the Republican Party yet.

I would be willing to wager that the former mayor has a sex swing....inside of a port-o-potty.....in his bedroom.

All seriousness aside, he's one of those conservatives that you may disagree with politically, but there is no denying that he was an excellent mayor who was hard working, competent and honest.

I just wish he would have kept his bible tucked into his trousers.

I love how you Democrats come on here attacking a man of principle, a man of God..like Santorum -- as you support things like abortion, same-sex marriage and many other abominable things. I love how you LIE on him also..but you can relax Democrats -- he's not, and can't take your birth control, but somehow..I think you people already know that.

He's not what?  But a more relevant question is why you think everyone must live by your very restricted standards, enforced by law if necessary.

For anyone who wants to see the "perfect" world that Santorum wants, just take a look at Afghanistan.  There it is a criminal offense to have premarital sex, for women to run away from their home, or even a women to be near a man.Go watch "Love Crimes of Kabul" for the whole story.  Boils down to the fact that he wants contraception, premarital sex, and let us not forget any sex that is not missionary, all illegal.

Thanks for those lies about Santorum -- too hard to stick to the truth for Democrats I guess?

Well thats funny, these things have come straight from his mouth.  Not hard to find on youtube nowadays.  So if they are lies then why did he say these things?

Really? Could smell him, huh? Funny, how you can't smell the stench of some of things he and other Christians oppose (same-sex marriage, abortion).
