Personhood Florida Aborts Current Petition, Plans to Start Over in January

Since a Florida group managed to collect only around 20,000 of the 676,811 signatures needed to put the state's own version of a "personhood" amendment before the voters, they're ditching that one and starting over again.

Initiative petition laws have now changed, making signatures for such petitions valid for only two years instead of four.

Now, as they announce they're starting anew, Personhood FL's petition actually comes with different language in an attempt to presumably ban abortion -- or as some critics claim, it could outlaw even more than that.

Here's the language of the petition as it was before it was aborted:

"The words 'person' and 'natural person' apply to all human beings, irrespective of age, race, health, function, condition of physical and/or mental dependency and/or disability, or method of reproduction, from the beginning of the biological development of that human being."

Here's the new one:

(a) The rights of every person shall be recognized, among which in the first place is the inviolable right of every innocent human being to life. The right to life is the paramount and most fundamental right of a person.
(b) With respect to the fundamental and inalienable rights of all persons guaranteed in this Constitution, the word 'person' applies to all human beings, irrespective of age, race, sex, health, function, or condition of dependency, including unborn children at every stage of their biological development regardless of the method of creation.

According to Personhood FL, the new language it's trying to get people to sign on to was "designed by a think tank of prolife personhood attorneys and satisfies 11 conditions needed to unite pro-life ministries" and was approved by the Family Research Council and the American Family Association.

We'd just like to remind everyone one last time that the medical cannabis petition garnered more signatures than the "personhood" petition.

These people need to get a real job, and stop worrying what other people do with their bodies.

No one should stop a mommy from exterminating any inconvenient kiddies.  Most of them will only grow up to be Democrats and so are no loss..

The whole issue of so-called personhood for the blastula has already been disposed of, as it were, legally. Justice Blackmun's majority opinion in Roe devoted two paragraphs to it, concluding that there is nothing in American case law or the Constitution to support a belief in such a fallacy. You can look it up.
