Broward Commissioner Stacy Ritter Gets the Lew Rockwell Treatment

The Broward Commission voted yesterday to go through with its complaint to the Transportation Security Administration against the body scanners at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, but the conversation that took place before the vote apparently didn't quite satisfy some of the TSA's harshest critics.

A columnist over at the Lew Rockwell website -- run by the libertarian political commentator of the same name -- wasn't too happy with what Broward Commissioner Stacy Ritter said at yesterday's commission meeting.

If there's such a phrase, Ritter got Rockwell'd.

Among the dissenters was Comrade-sorry, Commissioner Stacy Ritter. She believes, unbelievably enough, that passengers have "'some personal responsibility here.' If travelers study the issue and decide they don't want to go through the scanners, they don't have to. They can opt for a thorough pat-down." This is what passes for "choice" among Our Rulers -- and since we may "choose," this moron figures the Feds should be free to endanger us. Wanna bet she'd never extend that same liberty to entrepreneurs (not that they'd want it)?

You won't be surprised to learn that she also "said she trusted what the TSA said. ...'Are we as government officials going to say we don't believe government?' [she asked.] 'Well, I won't say that.'"

Finally! A politician with conviction, willing to fall on her sword for the overlords in DC! Let us hope she reaps the due rewards of such loyalty.

A TSA spokesman ("spokesliar," if we're keeping the Rockwell terminology) read a statement from the agency at the commission meeting, which you can read over at Broward Politics.

did anyone watch the meeting?  Rockwell didn't.  Some guy from the TSA was there and gave statistics that you'd have to pass through that scanner 3,000 times to equal a set of teeth xrays from your dentist.  No one HAS to go through the scanners.  Ask for a pat-down.

This is the same Stacy Ritter who approved the $610,000 worth of artwork approved for the new courthouse that nobody wanted.I'll campaign to vote her out (I live in Broward County)

The truth hurts, Stacy Ritter. I hope one of the six passengers who get cancer from those scanners this year is you. I hope the molesters at TSA rub your sex organs, too.  Keep trusting government, Stacy, and government will keep sticking its hands down your pants.   Apparently Stacy Ritter likes that kind of thing.

No one has to go through the scanners because they could just buy a ticket on Southwest Airlines.  Southwest's terminal at FLL doesn't have any scanners.  Remind me again how scanners keep us safe when they're trivially avoidable?  Do you think the bad guys are going to choose to buy tickets where they'd have to go through scanners when there's a checkpoint down the hall that doesn't have them?   This isn't about your safety, anonymous.  It's an enormous boondoggle to shovel money into the pockets of campaign contributors and former government officials like Michael Chertoff while exposing you to unnecessary doses of ionizing radiation.   If you think the TSA's radiation machines make you safer, you're dumber than you look.

Wishing cancer on someone is always a righteous move.  You stay classy, Sommer Gentry!

She didn't do anything to protect you from cancer when she had the chance, Ron.
