Allen West the Subject of a House Resolution Over His Nazi Propaganda Comments

Rep. Allen West
The Library of Congress will forever hold on to a copy of a House Resolution condemning Rep. Allen West's "repugnant" conduct for comparing Democrats to Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels.

The resolution lived for a total of 26 minutes and 13 seconds yesterday afternoon, before most House Republicans voted to table the resolution, effectively killing it.

This resolution came in response to West's comments on Friday, which -- as with many things that West says -- caused drama.

"If Joseph Goebbels was around, he'd be very proud of the Democrat Party, because they have an incredible propaganda machine," West told reporters. "Let's be honest, you know, some of the people in the media are complicit with this and enabling them to get that type of message out."

West then immediately responded to those comments by saying "you guys will take whatever I say, and you will spin it to try to demonize me and demagogue me" -- also known as repeating what he said.

At 3:25 p.m. yesterday, according to the House Clerk, Democratic Rep. Donna Edwards of Maryland raised the issue to have her resolution immediately heard.

A Republican made a motion to table the measure seven seconds after 3:30 p.m., and it was dead by a vote of 231-188, with all 231 favoring to table the resolution being Republicans, whereas only 3 of the 188 in dissent were Republicans.

Here's what the resolution said, in part:

Whereas the American Jewish Committee issued a December 15, 2011, statement saying 'To make a linkage between any mainstream political party in the United States and the heinous atrocities committed by the Third Reich should be simply beyond the pale, whatever political differences may arise in a heated electoral season . . . By invoking the image of Joseph Goebbels and the Gestapo, Representative West has displayed a complete lack of understanding of the worst genocidal era in human history. Moreover, he has diminished and trivialized the unique evil perpetrated by the Third Reich through his unfortunate use of language';

Whereas the Anti-Defamation League said in a December 16, 2011, letter to the Representative from Florida, Mr. West, `We were deeply dismayed by Rep. West's remark comparing the Democratic Party's attempts to articulate views to the American people through the media to the efforts of the Nazi propaganda minister, Joseph Goebbels . . . Such outrageous Holocaust analogies have no place in our political dialogue. They are offensive, they trivialize real historical events, and they diminish the memory of the six million Jews and millions of others who perished in the Holocaust';

Whereas the Representative from Michigan, Mr. Conyers, wrote in a letter to the Representative from Florida, Mr. West, that the Representative from Florida should `help raise the level of congressional discourse in a vigorous debate';

Whereas the Representative from Florida, Mr. West, responded back in a letter to the Representative from Michigan, Mr. Conyers, that `The Democrat Party does indeed have a vicious propaganda machine, it espouses lies and deceit and the Master of deceptive information would be truly proud';

Whereas in the repetition of this abhorrent and outrageous sentiment to the Representative from Michigan, Mr. Conyers, the Representative from Florida, Mr. West, demonstrates not only the willful and malicious misapplication of history, but also his disdain for the decorum of the Congress; and

Whereas the conduct of the Representative from Florida was repugnant: Now, therefore, be it

Resolved, That the House of Representatives disapproves of the behavior of the Representative from Florida, Mr. West, for bringing discredit to the House by offending the memory of those who died during the Holocaust.

Sigh, Ok, you have me pegged... If standing for less taxes, not spending money we don't have, cutting back on the kind of entitlement spending that has every country in Europe on the verge of bankruptcy, protecting our ourselves from the all too real threat of terrorism and nuclear proliferation and supporting the kind of basic moral and ethical values that have all but disappeared from our secular society, then yes, I guess I do support the Tea Party and Alan West.

Wow, so articulate you are. Your clear lack of intelligence is yet another tragic example of why the U.S. Is no longer able to compete in a global economy.

I'm going to move to D22 just so I can vote against the prick.

What is truly refreshing about Rep. Alan West is that unlike most politicians these days,  he shuns political correctness and tells it like it is at the expense of  offending the likes of  Debbie Wasserman Shultz and Donna Edwards. His analogy was actually quite on track when you consider that 99% of the media has become the de-facto platform for Democrats and exercises a painfully obvious double standard when it comes to reporting on political issues.  Case in point, one never really hears about  similar questionable commentary coming from the mouth of  Democrats, which by the way, also includes a colorful reference to Goebbels and the Nazi propaganda machine by Rep Steve Cohen (D-TN) as follows:“Republicans  say it’s a government takeover of health care, a big lie just like Goebbels. You say it enough, you repeat the lie, you repeat the lie, and eventually, people believe it. Like blood libel. That’s the same kind of thing. Germans said enough about the Jews and people believed it — believed it and you have the Holocaust. We heard on this floor, government takeover of health care” and people have come to believe that too.”   Jan, 2011Here are some others…On the subject of Obama: "A few years ago, this guy would have been getting us coffee.”   - Bill Clinton to Ted Kennedy, 2008 “I mean, you got the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy"...  Joe Biden to the New York Observer, 2007. "This guy, he was catapulted in on hope and change, what we hope the guy is. What the f*#k? Everything he's saying's on the teleprompter. I'm blacker than Barack Obama. I shined shoes. I grew up in a five-room apartment. My father had a little laundromat in a black community not far from where we lived. I saw it all growing up."  - Rod Blagojevich to Esquire Magazine, 2010“The Jews don’t like Farrakhan, so they call me Hitler. Well that’s a good name. Hitler was a great man. He rose Germany up from the ashes. – Louis Farrakhan , campaigning on behalf of  congresswoman Cynthia McKinney in 2002“Hymies”  “Hymietown” - Jesse Jackson’s description of NYC while on the 1984 presidential campaign trail.

NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON JEWISH AFFAIRShttp://nationalconferen... OF JEWISH LEADERS REAFFIRMS ITS RESPECT FOR CONGRESSMAN ALLEN WESTFor Immediate ReleaseContact: NCJA  (212) 726-1124 natlconference@gmail.comDecember 21, 2011 -- At this time, the National Conference on Jewish Affairs (NCJA) would like to reaffirm the great support that Congressman Allen West has shown the Jewish People and the State of Israel. In matters of life, actions are the greatest barometer of personal sentiment.  Thus, those detractors accusing Congressman West of being insensitive to Holocaust victims are exploiting the situation to their own political benefit. Congressman West, as he explained, used the term Goebbels-like, as is the norm today, as a reference to incessant propaganda to demonize an opponent.  We understand that is the context in which the Congressman used the phrase when speaking about how the mainstream media and some extremists in the Democrat Party have propagandized against Republican colleagues.   All politics and heated rhetoric aside, Congressman Allen West remains one of the greatest friends of the worldwide Jewish community and retains our confidence in his leadership and friendship.-- The National Conference on Jewish Affairs is a pro-Israel, pro-America umbrella organization of Jewish leaders from across the nation.

 " complete lack of understanding of the worst genocidal era in human history." WTF???? How about the 20 million Christian Russians who were massacred by the jewish led Bolsheviks?

Maybe someone should remind Citizen West just exactly what Hitler and the Nazis thought of racial and ethnic minorities -- and what Democrats such as Harry Truman, Eleanor Roosevelt, Bobby and Teddy Kennedy, Bill and Hillary Clinton, and especially Lyndon Baines Johnson did for black folks. You also could remind him of Nixon's Southern strategy, Reagan's beginning his campaign in Philadelphia, Mississippi, and Karl Rove's campaign to destroy the absentee ballots of African American soldiers serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. Allen West is not a credit to his race. Rather, he is the Stepin Fetchit of the Koch brothers. He is a talking head with no brain attached.

allen west & the rest of the tea party-elect never has and never will represent moral or ethical values...and entitlement spending is not what put europe on the edge of bankruptcy. it's the exact same financial manipulation that put us on the edge of collapse 3 years ago. you know, the financial manipulation that west has never said one word about? west and the rest of cover-up crew just blame it on entitlements because the speculators need more $ to keep their game afloat and will collude with politicians to take it from anyone and everyone. americans who have suffered from terrorism & nuclear proliferation in the last 10 years: maybe a couple thousand, optimistically. (not counting all those dumb motherfuckers who thought they could invade people's countries and not get eaten up and shat out)americans who have suffered from financial crime that west does nothing but distract us from: in the millions, pragmatically. that's why i vote for debbie wasserman schultz! only kidding.

Riverrat69, first of all you know nothing about me or my political persuasion, which by the way is not influenced by what I gather are your friends the Teabaggers. I am actually and always have been a registered independent who like Lt. Col. West has actually lived in the Middle East and understands that for better or worse, until we succeed in developing viable alternative energy sources here at home, we are dependent upon maintaining stability and our interests in that part of the world so that idiots such as yourself can fill your gas tank for under $5 gallon, unlike most anywhere else in the world these days. Additionally, like Rep. West, I also understand that those that don't truly understand history have a tendency to repeat it, which sadly is where this country is headed. A culture of entitlement and liberalism eventually begets authoritative totalitarianism, or "Communism" in plain English. The new, politically correct term for this is "Progressivism", and those that embrace it, yourself included, are too stupid to realize the end result.

I live in Florida as well and could only wish for a rep Like Alan West to replace our sorry excuse for a state rep. In the meantime, I suggest you explore why you weren't swallowed at birth.

Israel is the stone weight tied around the neck of America, dragging us down with its Middle East conflicts and continuing misrepresentation of Islam and Arabs through its propaganda ministry outlets.

 Just like Goebbels theory that repetitive lies will eventually be accepted as the truth the Israelis have turned it into an art form.

 Until we Americans get rid of the repressive  yoke of Israeli Zionism we will continue to be divided on the most mundane topics thereby stifiling whatever productive growth we, as AMERICANS, can and are able to achieve.

personally i take these issues a little more seriously when they're coming from a mouth of an admitted war criminal who has expressed a strong desire for the military to hold a place of superiority over ordinary US citizens. i guess we just need a "fascism percentile scale" where obama's at like 85% and west's more at like...98%

I don't quite understand your point. Up top you say you like people who shun political correctness and then you decry non-PC comments by Dems.

Using your logic, shouldn't you be applauding Steve Cohen for telling it like he sees it?

Are you saying that it's good when Republicans are non-PC and it's bad when Democrats are? Because that's the way it sounds from your post. Of course, you don't need me to tell you that that would be the height of hypocrisy.

You don't get it and your defense of the indefensible makes your rant more insane than his. Maybe like Mr. West, you don't want peace in the middle east, just a perpetual state of war.

A great perspective on the issue and a fitting acknowledgement of Rep West, which sadly is beyond the intellectual ability of most New Times readers to comprehend (for lack of any historical reference or understanding of geo-political dynamics).

This spurious NYC organization is yet another publicity-seeking vehicle for the notorious Beth Gilinsky, one of the major leaders of the lynch mob who protested the so-called mosque at Ground Zero. Ms. Gilinksy, like her bedfellows at Newsmax, has never said a kind or decent word about anyone who favors a sensible solution to the Israeli-Palestinian question. She makes Netanyahu look like Neville Chamberlain. If I were Col. West, I'd refuse to accept her support -- or campaign contributions. It's the moral equivalent of Prescott Bush being the registered USA agent for Nazi Germany.

Take Asshole West to Israhell, along with you and all your little friends, and leave us Americans alone.

 We don't need you or your arpartheid racist state of Israhell bringing us down anymore and things in this country will be quite fine when you are all gone.

Maybe Allen West is a self hating AA, besides being a raving lunatic, who doesn't realize that he is his party's token. I would not be shocked to see this guy some day just totally lose it and become violent. His random acts of hate spewing may be just the tip of the iceberg. Although I look forward to the possibility of his defeat in the next election, I can only imagine a defeated Allen West .

Why did you use the British spelling of "acknowledgment"?

So, I will assume you did not come onto this comment forum to make friends. Demonizing the readers by minimizing their intellectual capacity is not a valid debate tactic. Actually it is downright hostile, but carry on, along with West who expose their agenda on a continuing basis.

Stupid analogy for sure, but no surprise from what I take to be a life-long Dem. Neville Chamberlin tried to skirt the Nazi threat by burying his head in the sand and signing a pact with them in the hope the problem would go away, much the same way our sorry excuse for a President is reacting to the growing Islamist threat spreading across the Middle East and Europe. Netanyahu on the other hand, like Rep Alan West, clearly understands this threat, not only to the state of Israel, but to the stability of the middle east and even to our own national security.
