Voxxi.com, New News Website, Targets Hispanics and Latinos
| CEO Emilio Sanchez |
If you crave your news with a Latin flair (but not quite so Latin as to have it delivered in the Spanish language) and CNN's Soledad O'Brien isn't quite doing it for ya, then you may want to check out Voxxi.com, a new, Miami-based website that covers news, politics, sports, entertainment, and more. It is intended to be sort of a Huffington Post for a bilingual audience.
Serving as CEO is Emilio C. Sanchez, formerly of EFE News Agency, a Spanish-language wire service. The chairman of the board is Salomon Melgen, an opthamologist and philanthropist. The site is currently in a beta phase; a refined version will relaunch in early 2012.
"Voxxi.com will be at the forefront of the digital landscape, providing a virtual community that empowers acculturated U.S. Hispanics to share in intelligent discourse and commentary, while participating in a national discussion with international flair," Sanchez said in a news release.
Much as we gringos are tempted to tease our fellow journalists for having a site targeting Spanish speakers written in English only and for having sections for both "Hispanic News" and "Latino News" (what's the diff?), we do truly wish them well! We love that they Tweet in Spanglish.
