Nelson Heck, Vietnam Veteran, Killed Inside His Fort Lauderdale Home

Fort Lauderdale Police Detective Travis Mandell says the cops were called just after 11 p.m. Tuesday about a shooting in the 1100 block of NW 48th Street, and neighbors found Heck on the ground with gunshot wounds.
Mandell says a preliminary investigation leads detectives to believe that one or more people entered Heck's home and that "some sort of confrontation ensued."
Detectives also believe that Heck may have grabbed a gun of his own and shot back at the suspect(s) but don't know if anyone else was shot.
Mandell adds that a burglary report was taken by police the night before the shooting, but detectives don't yet know if that's related to Tuesday night's shooting.
