Kenneth Ellis Allegedly Sniped a Kitten From His Condo Balcony

I think we got this one backward.
Who snipes a kitten from his condo balcony?

According to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, 68-year-old Naples resident Kenneth Ellis.

MCSO Deputy Becky Herrin says someone phoned the cops around 7 p.m. Monday, saying they just saw someone shoot a kitty at the Ocean Pointe Condos in Tavernier.

The man told deputies he was watching a mother cat and her two kittens, between four and five weeks old, playing around below his balcony.

Then he heard a "pop" and watched one of the black and white kittens begin "shaking and twitching," then watched it die, Herrin says.

The man told police he looked to his side and saw the barrel of some sort of gun protruding from the edge of a nearby balcony.

Two deputies arrived at the scene, and after confronting Ellis -- who was in the condo where the barrel of the gun-like object was seen -- he denied shooting any cat.

After further questioning, Herrin says, Ellis admitted to shooting the kitten.

Deputies also found the gun -- an airsoft rifle -- with a scope attached to it, Herrin says.

Ellis was booked into the Monroe County Jail on a felony animal-cruelty charge.

I'm glad they put his mug shot in the newspaper...remember this guy.  He should be SHAMED everywhere he goes.

Jack, you're right -- the courts don't take animal cruelty seriously, even the most egregious cases which disgusts me.  I've been an animal rights advocate for about 15 years and have "armchair" lobbyed for tougher laws and even getting those passed is a feat, but then they have to enforce it.  It is a reflection on our society as a whole -- how we treat the most helpless, the voiceless.  I hope people will get involved and at the very least adopt a pet from a shelter (they are overflowing now!!!) or a reputable rescue group.  Check out: www.petfinder.com   Make a donation to a rescue group -- they're all hurting and are overworked trying to pull dogs and cats from "death row" for a crime the animals never committed.

I encourage everyone to call the D.A. in Naples FL and urge prosecution of this idiot!!!  Make the point that we can't be allowing 68 year old men to be picking off cats.  That is sick in and of itself, but WHAT IF HE HIT A PERSON?!?  If you make it about people, the D.A. MAY act...pathetic, but true.  Thanks, and Happy Thanksgiving.

Can't jump to conclusions. We don't know what the kitten did?!!

By all means lets throw all killers of kitties, puppies, guppies and hamsters in jail for a couple of years or so.  Putting him on death row, spending a couple of million on trials, & jail costs and then giving him a lethal injection 16 years after the fact is a GREAT solution.

Cutting a bitch slack after she slaughters her unborn or even born baby is perfectly fine.

Get a little proportion you fools.  Perhaps spaying and jail time would be fine for them too.

I just have to say that you are first, a complete moron. And I say this as a very hardcore CONSERVATIVE!!!

Yes, I know most animal advocates are very liberal, but stop assuming, and besides, are you ok with some wacko picking off kittens from a condo balcony?  Really???  I'm a guns rights supporter, too, but with RESPONSIBILITY.  This wacko shouldn't be anywhere near a gun.

I'm also PRO-LIFE -- again, I'm a voice for the VOICELESS: the unborn, animals, mentally and physically challenged, the elderly -- any segment of society that can be abused by a human being who makes that choice to be SICK AND EVIL!

You'd be singing a different tune if that were a PERSON he picked off.  I think you're the one who needs to be spayed or neutered (guessing the latter). I hope you haven't reproduced yet.  We have enough uneducated morons in our society today.  Yeah, I'm against illegal aliens reproducing like rabbits leaching off entitlement programs American taxpayers foot the bill for, too.  So, your whole "bash the liberal whiny animal rights complainers" has been disspelled.

Don't you see what 40 years of billionaire-funded corporate right-wing propaganda has done to you? Nothing seems bad enough to you, because abortion is always, always worse. Therefore, all kinds of people can get away with all kinds of crimes, financial, against humanity, against animals- anything. You've been trained and brainwashed to continually look away. It should be quite obvious that the man is sick and dangerous and should be off the streets. Sticking a gun out of a window and firing at anything that moves? And if the bullet had hit the kitten and continued towards a pregnant woman and shot her in the stomach, then it would have been horrible? But if it just happened to only kill a kitten, well, that's obviously only an occasion for scolding- not him- but everybody else.

See my comment above.  I hate to agree with any liberal moron (oxymoron), but you are somewhat right.  Many conservatives could give two sh*ts about animals, but are pro life.  How about being DECENT HUMAN BEINGS TO ALL LIVING THINGS, regardless of where you stand politically?!?  That'd be a nice change, now wouldn't it?  See my comment above -- I'm about as hardcore conservative as you get, but I like to think I'm a "compassionate conservative" -- no comparison to George Bush's (moron) definition of the term...  Are you involved with animal rights groups?  If not, please get involved.  They are all needing help in this down economy that was caused by liberals.  See Obama and Democrats-- Fannie Mae/Freddie don't need to be regulated.  We can go on and on, but stop with the "right wing propaganda" b.s.  It's really old...

Don't bother Drew.  He's probably feeling paranoid that someone is going to spot the pile of dead kittens outside his window and seize his precious air-soft rifle.  You can't reason with people like that.

Since courts don't take animal cruelty charges seriously, he will get a slap on his wrist and be admonished to not do it again.  He should get some time and be banned from ever owning a pet.

I feel the same anger you do -- the courts will probably slap him on the wrist at best.  I'm sick of it.  PLEASE, use your anger in a constructive manner and CALL THE NAPLES FL D.A. ASKING HIM/HER TO PROSECUTE THIS OLD F*CK!  Make the point that we can't be allowing nutjobs to be using scopes on rifles to pick off kitties.  What if it was a PERSON?!?  If you make it about people, then maybe the D.A. will do it, but I won't hold my breath.

As a Naples resident, does anyone remember the "My Best Friends" "rescue group"?  Last year, my husband and saw this "rescue group" at Petco in Ft. Myers off Colonial "adopting out dogs".  The dogs were all dirty, long nails, one had an infection and the people looked like the scuzbuckets I knew they were.  I've been involved with animal rescue and advocacy for about 15 years -- I knew these people were no good.  I complained to the management at Petco that they might want to be more selective in whom they allow to "adopt out" homeless pets.  I asked if they checked these people out -- of course the dopey "asst. mgr" was clueless and could care less.  Three days later we see on the news that this "rescue group" was busted on several FELONY animal cruelty charges in Buckingham, FL (the boonies).  I went directly to my local police station, filed a report of what I witnessed and I called the DA's office numerous times offering to serve as a witness to prosecute these scumbags, and nothing.  They dropped the charges!!!  And, they had TONS OF EVIDENCE!!!  Justice should not be "selective" nor should law enforcement. If the laws stink change them, but enforce the ones we have now!!!  Please be a voice for the voiceless -- get involved with a reputable animal protection group: The Humane Society of the United States, Friends of Gummi (Naples), Dogs Deserve Better, etc.  check out: www.petfinder.com  ADOPT, DON'T SHOP!
