Herman Cain Is a "Distracter," According to Allen West [Insert Laughter Here]

Of all the people to call for GOP presidential candidate Herman Cain to drop out of the race because he's a distraction, it was Rep. Allen West.

Yes, West, quite possibly the biggest distraction in the House of Representatives, said Cain's being a "distracter" was enough for him to call it quits in his quest for president.

"Beyond reassessing his campaign, he probably needs to understand that he is a distracter for what's going on right now and we should move on," West said during the morning show of WMAL-AM talk radio in Washington, D.C.

Coming from the man who gets more TV and radio airtime than any other House freshman -- in addition to being the self-proclaimed "modern-day Harriet Tubman" who compared being gay to liking ice cream and riding scooters, said gay soldiers can "change their behavior," called not-a-lady Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz the "most vile, unprofessional, and despicable member of the US House of Representatives," and says Obama supporters are a "threat to the gene pool" -- it's hard to believe West would call anyone a distraction.

West also called the GOP presidential race a "two-man race," referencing former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, and said it's time for Cain to go.

He did recycle his line about Gingrich's "200-pound rucksack" but also had some nice words about Gingrich, possibly due to the fact that Gingrich dropped West's name for a possible VP bid.

And for the first time, West seemed to be a little more optimistic about running for vice president.

"If people in this country believe that I can make a difference and that I can help to get our country back on track... If I can make a difference, then, you know, I'll answer that call," he said, adding that it would "change my life."

West also noted that he will be performing standup comedy tonight -- yes, again, we're serious -- for the "Funniest Celebrity Contest" in Washington, D.C.
