Deerfield Memos: Former Mayor Threw a Fit at Clerk's Office, Dropped a "You People" Line

Categories: Broward News
Memos from the city clerk's office in Deerfield Beach accuse former Mayor Jean Robb throwing a fit in their office last week, tossing some insults and expletives and even dropping a "you people" line on employees.

The memos, obtained by city activist Chaz Stevens, describe Robb coming into the clerk's office on the afternoon of November 2 to submit petitions for the Unfair Rescind Taxes Committee -- which fell short a few thousand signatures to force a referendum on the city's new utility tax.

A memo penned by Heather Montemayor, an administrative employee at the clerk's office, describes what happened:

"She was extremely hostile from the beginning; referring to us and our department as 'you people' and also referring to our department as 'dumb' and 'stupid.'"

When reached by phone, Montemayor declined to comment on what she believed Robb meant by "you people," although it should be noted that several of the employees in the clerk's office are African-American.

Montemayor's memo also describes that as City Clerk Ada Graham-Johnson walked from the counter to her office, Robb said, "That's right, go hide in your office, bitch."

Graham-Johnson requested that Robb repeat what she had just said, to which Robb replied, "I said go and hide in your office" -- leaving out the "bitch" part, according to the memo.

Graham-Johnson explained to Robb that they were trying to help her, and after doing what Robb asked her to do, Robb left.

"This is not the first time we have had an issue with Mrs. Robb," Montemayor writes. "The past few times she has been up here she has been very hostile and extremely hard to deal with. She is also very hostile when she calls our office, making it EXTREMELY difficult to even pick up her phone call. Mrs. Robb shows absolutely NO respect to our office and I find her to be very offensive, especially to Mrs. Ada Graham-Johnson."

Quintella Tross, another administrative worker in the clerk's office, described several of the same details in her memo.

"...I witnessed Ada Graham-Johnson, City Clerk, and Samantha Gillyard, Deputy Clerk, being verbally abused by Ms. Robb. She continuously referenced to them and our office as 'you people,' calling us stupid, dumb, and incompetent; she also told Ada to 'go hide in your office, BITCH,' saying it twice," Tross' memo states.

Tross wrote that Robb was still mumbling vulgar things on her way out the door, accusing the office of giving her an incorrect map.

"She has made it uncomfortable to assist her at the counter or via telephone in the past few weeks," she said.

Both memos were sent to City Manager Burgess Hanson, and Montemayor tells the Pulp neither he nor anyone else in the office could comment on the situation.

I think that all you people are dummies.  Especially people who think they are geniuses.  That goes triple for municipal bureaucrats.  Afro-americans have no monopoly on dumminess.

The city of Deerfield's utility tax is illegal. They have stonewalled every effort for a referendum to accept/repeal the tax/fee. They improperly invalidated many signatures without explanation and yes the voting precinct maps were flawed. Those are facts , not opinions. The electorate is being denied their citizen's rights to representation and voice on this issue. BTW, "you" is a pronoun and not a racial slur.Making this a racially divisive issue based on " you people " is a quantum leap and nothing more than demonization of character.

PS to Matt Hendley. Your incestuous relationship and glorification of a certain serial commenter on this blog is blatantly skewing any sense of open mindedness on this and other issues.

PSS. The Deerfield City commissioners have sent a mini committee to Dr Brenda Snipes Supervisor of Elections office on two occasions to direct her office on how to invalidate the petition signers. Either they believe she is incapable of performing her duties ( fairly ) or they want to hedge their bet with some politicking of their own. Keep in mind Dr. Snipes is up for re election. Also know that Dr. Snipes , unbeknownst,to the mini committee, invited a representative of the petition group to sit in on the last meeting.

The Deerfield Beach City Commission does not believe in the Sunshine law nor do they seem to owe any allegiance to the cash strapped citizens of Deerfield. They are in the midst of gouging revenue from its residents to cover their own poor decisions. Those same employees in the clerks office are in danger of losing their paycheck if the utility tax is repealed because this city is broke and by law they cannot raise property tax. Why don't we take a mini leap and wonder if maybe their behavior in this incident is sourced as a sense of survival. These clerks and administrators need this utility tax for their paychecks. They saw the termination of other city employees earlier this year in a mass "layoff". I would suggest to you there is the possibility of underhandedness by that office. Open your mind and get the other side of the story. It might prove to be just as interesting.

HER could not comment?  Just for shits and giggles, why don't we try to write English?

In fairness, Robb is going through a post-post-post menopausal stage, so that might be the reason for this goat fuck.

On a scary note (even more hideous than picturing Jean in a two piece) is the image of RobbZilla sitting on the dais as Mayor in 2012 -- now THAT is fucked up -- we’d be longing for the days when another old lady lunatic, aka Caryl Berner, was sitting on the DBHA Board of Commissioners.

But then again, in the last election, Robb came in a distant third behind an elected official arrested and removed from office (Capellini) and a barber (Noland).

Well, that answers a question we've all had about you ... "does he/she/it think"?

Oh Kenny...

How much did this tax cost you in October?  For my household, it was about $7.00.

The ex Mayor is a nasty person. That is a fact. And she is an idiot to boot. Those are both facts.

The fact that she couldn't read a fucking map is no surprise...  I hear that being lost is one of the signs of dementia.
