Broward Sex Offenders Get a Pre-Halloween Visit From Probation Officers -- 16 Arrested

There are some people you'd rather not have your kids approach for candy on Halloween -- like a registered sex offender with a 3 1/2-foot samurai sword.

That's probably why probation officers and cops went and checked on some South Broward sex offenders before Halloween to make sure no one was violating his probation.

According to the Florida Department of Corrections, officers conducted more than 50 searches in the homes of sex offenders a few days before Halloween that resulted in 16 arrests, including the above-mentioned samurai sword.

In case you're wondering, no, sex offenders are not allowed to give candy out to children.

"Every year, sex offenders are instructed that they cannot participate in Halloween by decorating, dressing up, or handing out candy," the department says in a statement.

Most of the 16 sex offenders arrested were nabbed for probation violation warrants, but several of those arrests were for perverts possessing things that probably don't mix with children and Halloween.

Two were caught with drugs -- one with weed, one with cocaine -- and another was found with some sort of knives and ammo, the department says.

One person was arrested for failing to register as a sex offender, and of course, the guy with the 3 1/2-foot samurai sword.

The rest were arrested on the warrants and for other miscellaneous reasons.
