Occupy Palm Beach Remains in Occupation Mode Despite Curfew Warnings

Occupy Palm Beach remains in occupation of Flagler Park in downtown West Palm Beach, as the city's warning of a curfew on the park has gone unenforced -- for now.

Unlike their Fort Lauderdale counterparts, Occupy Palm Beach has run into some leniency from the city in its occupation campaign.

Occupiers were initially told the park was going to be closed from dusk to dawn. They were then warned on Saturday that an 11 p.m. curfew was going to be placed on the park, but when the cops rolled by, they told the group they wouldn't enforce the curfew since a notice of the park's hours wasn't posted.

With what may be a bit of sympathy from the city, some protesters continued to camp in the park on Saturday and Sunday nights, and the park will still play home to all of the general assemblies for the group.

One of the group's organizers (who prefers to remain anonymous to protect his job) says the decision to stay in the park was approved by the body of Occupy Palm Beach, but the group of Occupy folks who decided to stay put is a smaller faction.

Now the group will attempt to work with the city to obtain a permit or some other approval to keep the occupation going.

Flagler Park is a prime piece of real estate in West Palm Beach that the organizer says has a great view of the superyachts cruising down the Intracoastal Waterway.

Meanwhile, Occupy Fort Lauderdale remains homeless from its occupation sites after getting the boot from both Bubier Park in Fort Lauderdale and Equality Park in Wilton Manors.
