Alan Grayson Goes to Bat for Occupy Wall Street (Video)

Now that former Orlando Democratic Rep. Alan Grayson is trying to win his old congressional seat back, he took a pretty good shot at making himself relevant again on Friday by coming out in defense of the Occupy Wall Street protests.

On HBO's Real Time With Bill Maher, Grayson gave an explanation of the Occupy movement to author P.J. O'Rourke and ended up with a standing ovation from Maher's audience.

"Let me tell you what they're talking about," Grayson said. "They're complaining about the fact that Wall Street wrecked the economy three years ago and nobody's held responsible for that."

Grayson introduced several bills during his congressional stay to fight corporate cash in politics, and although around 80 percent of his campaign money came from individuals during his 2010 bid for reelection, he may not exactly be part of that "99 percent" that's fueling the Occupy movement.

Regardless, the way he spoke on Maher's show makes him seem about on par with Ralph Nader in defending the little man.

Political ploy or not, Grayson's been making quite a bit of noise with his explanation.

Check out the video below, and just try to ignore the O'Rourke character:
