The "Occupy Wall Street" demonstration that's been catching on across the country in recent weeks is just days away from the introduction of the Fort Lauderdale movement.

Saturday, October 8 is the inaugural date of Occupy Fort Lauderdale, as protesters will gather outside the Broward Main Public Library at 6 p.m.

"Let's occupy Fort Lauderdale and show that every place in this country is fed up with corporate thieves stealing our liberty and selling it to the highest bidder," it says on Occupy Fort Lauderdale's Facebook page, which seems to be the main way people are organizing.

Here's the agenda currently set up for Saturday's Occupy Fort Lauderdale Gathering:

  • Introduction - 10min
  • General Assembly Etiquette - 5min
  • Agenda overview - 5min
  • Discussion on current available resources - 10min
  • Discussion on needed resources - 20min
  • Discussion on priority issues/demands and focus - 1hr 30min
  • Volunteering and delegation of responsibilities - 20min
  • Date/location/time selection for next assembly - 15min

There are currently 328 people who "like" the Facebook page for Occupy Fort Lauderdale, although we'll have to find out how many are in attendance on Saturday.

Occupy Palm Beach and Occupy Miami have already held their inaugural meetings, and on October 15, Occupy Florida will organize at five locations throughout the state to concentrate more people in the key areas, including one in Miami.

Stay tuned to the Pulp for updates on the Occupy movement in South Florida.

Marx was an extremely important philosopher. There is nothing wrong with adapting some of his theories to a government. American capitalism allows certain individuals to consume much more than they produce. Consumption>Production = fail.  I'm not implying that wealth should be taken away, but i'm sure that the mega money earned by certain non-production services (mostly banking) is extremely inflated.  All bubbles eventually pop

I will be there.  And the people making "Karl Marx" comments on this string disgust me.  This is starting with the students.  YOUR KIDS.  These kids are graduating in the top 25% in their masters programs and are unable to find jobs. Played by the rules.  Incurred debt.  Invested in themselves and are trying to climb the ladder - but the ladder is gone. Much like the current down sized/unemployed.  Government has a role to play. And it's an important one. "Working for shareholders" only means firing higher paid seniority and out sourcing new growth overseas and senseless automations. I own a successful business with employees.  I run ads for employment and cannot call back to all the responses from every walk of life - recordings with children cryingin the background - the respondent BEGGING for a job.  Karl Marx is running the demonstration you say?  You're just revolting.  So now we are as well. See you there. :-)

gimme a break..1. they can't find jobs because they took curriculum which is in a dead end spiral..no one needs liberal arts majors2. they are in debt because the colleges they went to charged too much...3. corporations downsize because they don't need the positions. You just don't hire to give someone a job. You hire because you need the position filled.

Government can't do anything like proposed...they have no authority to do so. If people want to get ahead they need to become entrepreneurs. No one gets ahead working as a jackhammer operator.

You obviously know nothing about the current state of the unemployment situation. You are making presumptions based on the old US. Also, jobs are being filled in China, not here. Who do you think buys their products? The Chinese? Penalize corporations that outsource. Anyone remember the term "Corporate Responsibility"?

that would be because the financial industry bloated construction in florida until it gutted itself. there's nothing wrong with being working class when the rich haven't stripped your industry until there's nothing left!

nice generalities though. all the unemployment issues in the country are due to students getting shitty degrees & companies "not needing positions"....uh huh...

Don't forget about those pesky jackhammers. If you choose to do regular, everyday work that builds and repairs infrastructure or teaches kids or puts out fires, or whatever, then you are NOT GETTING AHEAD!! Parasites, I tell you!

every tall building in Fort Lauderdale has the name of a bank written in big letters, as if the Banks are the kings of the land.  No wonder the city is crumbling.  I will be there with bells on!!!  screw the millionaires and billionaires, 99% of them have no idea what it means to struggle.

Do the shareholders decide what SuperPACs they contribute to? Or what fees to charge? Did the taxpayers bail them out? Regulate the mother----ers! The banks are only a part of the problem.
