Manny Ramirez Formally Charged With Domestic Violence
|Broward Sheriff's Office|
|Manny Ramirez -- who used quite a bit of chemical help to amass his MLB statistics -- will face a domestic-violence charge for allegedly slapping his wife.|
According to the Broward Sheriff's Office, Ramirez's wife called the cops around 4:30 p.m. on September 13, saying Ramirez had hit her in the face and caused a bump on her head.
Juliana Ramirez told the cops her husband had slapped her in the face with an open hand, causing her head to hit the headboard of the bed behind her, the police report says.
Juliana Ramirez told police she called the cops immediately because she "was afraid that the situation might escalate further," police say.
Manny Ramirez told police that during the argument, he was holding his wife by her shoulders, and as she shrugged him off, she accidentally fell backward and hit her head.
Regardless, the cops say Manny -- who was once suspended by the MLB after testing positive for a women's fertility drug, then retired after facing a 100-game suspension following failing another drug test -- was the primary aggressor in the incident and was arrested.
Ramirez, now 39 years old, was released from the Broward County Jail shortly thereafter and remains free on $2,500 bond.
Amid reports that he wants to use his chemically altered body to play baseball in the Dominican Republican, Ramirez will still have to show up to court on October 14 to be arraigned on his misdemeanor domestic-violence charge.
