Bad gas... station?
RaceTrac, an Atlanta-based gas behemoth known for its gut-busting soda fountains, has gotten slammed with another slip-and-fall lawsuit, some two months after a local couple filed suit against the 320-store petroleum conglomerate.

Isaura Velez walked into a Hollywood RaceTrac store in October 2010 but claims that she slipped, fell, and hurt herself, according to a lawsuit recently filed in the Broward County Civil Court.

Velez says that the store, located at 1200 S. Pine Island Road, did not tell her that the floor was wet.

Velez says she has suffered "severe injuries and damages" from the fall, according to court documents. Velez does not detail those injuries in the filing.

In July, Richard and Susan Gold also filed a lawsuit against RaceTrac.

Their complaint is based on a 2009 incident, when the husband and wife pulled into a RaceTrac filling station at 599 Atlantic Blvd. in Pompano Beach, court documents note.

Richard Gold started to pump gas, putting the nozzle on the auto-fill setting, according to the lawsuit. Gold claims that the pump malfunctioned, as a "high volume of gasoline started spewing" from the tank into the air and onto the ground, around the pump and his vehicle.

Gold says that he slipped and fell on the gas, seriously damaging his neck and back.

Like Velez, Gold is demanding a jury trial.

At presstime, a RaceTrac representative has not returned calls for comment. Check back to the Pulp for updates.

severe injuries and damages from the fall. This is all about another person has chosen to sue the same deep-pocketed, out-of-state corporation for a slip and fall.

Injuries comes in life without knocking the door.So if injury occurs it also bring about lots of expenses which include medical expenses, living expenses etc.The solicitor helps you to provide compensation for your claim by proving the facts which fulfill your claims.

The crux of your writing while sounding agreeable initially, did not sit well with me after some time. Someplace throughout the paragraphs you managed to make me a believer unfortunately only for a short while. I still have a problem with your leaps in logic and one might do well to fill in all those gaps. In the event you actually can accomplish that, I will undoubtedly be fascinated.

Since Bob Norman left this blog has gone south.  There is corruption all over the place and this slip and fall is news?  Pathetic.

Why is this news?  "Gut-busting", "hit", "slammed"?

It's a slip & fall lawsuit...my guess is any retail chain with more than a couple of locations has been sued for similar happenings.

Remember, dog bites man is not news.

But, if this is the way The Pulp is headed...let me give you a writing sample... The Sun, the Milky Way-based gas heating and lighting behemoth known for its sizzling hot surface, slammed South Florida with smoking hot intensity this morning when it rose out of nowhere to the east forcing local thermometers to skyrocket to over a white-hot 90 degrees! I long for the return of real journalism.

Can anyone tell me why someone falling is news?

Part of Bob Norman's Pulp was getting into the ins and outs of the cesspool that is Broward politics. This new group of writers has turned this column into the "National Enquirer" meets "Americas Funniest Home Videos". Can we please get this column away from the Mindless Tripe these incompetent "journalists" have foisted upon us and get back to news? Please?

Don't find a '1200 S. Pine Island Rd.' in Hollywood, nor any RaceTrac at that address in South Florida.

Wanna try again?

Hi there,

Thanks for the feedback.

It wasn't that someone falling is news -- it's that for the second time in a matter of months, yet another person has chosen to sue the same deep-pocketed, out-of-state corporation for a slip and fall. Having looked at the civil filings pretty much every day for the last four months, I found it interesting that RaceTrac happened to be involved in one of these lawsuits again, whereas other big, non-Florida conglomerates didn't seem to get Broward County civil suits filed against them by locals as frequently (with the exception of run-of-the-mill life insurance suits.) What this means, I don't know yet, but I would have felt irresponsible ignoring this.

That was the address listed in the filing. I write things as they're written in the filings.

Look, I am sure you are perfectly nice, and that you mean well, but this column has gone utterly south since Bob Norman left. I used to read this daily, but no more. This isn't news, and definitely not hard hitting.

Ms. Bekiempis, I'm sure you thought my critique of your article was unkind, but your story really wasn't news. There are news angles to your story, but you failed to do any research or touch on them.1. Is two S&F lawsuits unusual for RaceTrac or any retail chain of comparable size?2. Is RaceTrac doing something that is negligent and endangering customers?3. How about interviewing a lawyer that practices in the area or an insurance company spokesman for some background?4. How will the law passed in 2009 effect these suits if at all? Are they being filed in federal court or has the number of them dropped?5. RaceTrac is not a "petroleum behemoth" if anything it is a large convenience store chain.6. The over use of adjectives added little to the story.

Many readers like myself were used to some top-notch reporting and interesting articles in this space. This really doesn't fill that bill and we're frustrated because we've seemingly lost a great resources.

Oh really?

If you listened to the comments, the staff at NT just makes shit up as they go along.

Whak_a_mole is correct there is no RaceTrac location at 1200 S. Pine Island Rd in Hollywood, Florida. The picture for the article is not a RaceTrac location. That address does house the offices for CT Corporation a company that serves as the registered agent for many corporations and may have been where the lawsuit was served. So, while this may not have been a made up address it is indicative of absolutely nothing in the way of reporting going on...at least for this article.
