It's a slip & fall lawsuit...my guess is any retail chain with more than a couple of locations has been sued for similar happenings.

Remember, dog bites man is not news.

But, if this is the way The Pulp is headed...let me give you a writing sample... The Sun, the Milky Way-based gas heating and lighting behemoth known for its sizzling hot surface, slammed South Florida with smoking hot intensity this morning when it rose out of nowhere to the east forcing local thermometers to skyrocket to over a white-hot 90 degrees! It wasn't that someone falling is news -- it's that for the second time in a matter of months, yet another person has chosen to sue the same deep-pocketed, out-of-state corporation for a slip and fall. Having looked at the civil filings pretty much every day for the last four months, I found it interesting that RaceTrac happened to be involved in one of these lawsuits again, whereas other big, non-Florida conglomerates didn't seem to get Broward County civil suits filed against them by locals as frequently (with the exception of run-of-the-mill life insurance suits.) What this means, I don't know yet, but I would have felt irresponsible ignoring this.

Look, I am sure you are perfectly nice, and that you mean well, but this column has gone utterly south since Bob Norman left. I used to read this daily, but no more. This isn't news, and definitely not hard hitting.

Ms. Bekiempis, I'm sure you thought my critique of your article was unkind, but your story really wasn't news. There are news angles to your story, but you failed to do any research or touch on them.1. Is two S&F lawsuits unusual for RaceTrac or any retail chain of comparable size?2. Is RaceTrac doing something that is negligent and endangering customers?3. How about interviewing a lawyer that practices in the area or an insurance company spokesman for some background?4. How will the law passed in 2009 effect these suits if at all? Are they being filed in federal court or has the number of them dropped?5. RaceTrac is not a "petroleum behemoth" if anything it is a large convenience store chain.6. The over use of adjectives added little to the story.

Many readers like myself were used to some top-notch reporting and interesting articles in this space. This really doesn't fill that bill and we're frustrated because we've seemingly lost a great resources.

Whak_a_mole is correct there is no RaceTrac location at 1200 S. Pine Island Rd in Hollywood, Florida. The picture for the article is not a RaceTrac location. That address does house the offices for CT Corporation a company that serves as the registered agent for many corporations and may have been where the lawsuit was served.So, while this may not have been a made up address it is indicative of absolutely nothing in the way of reporting going on...at least for this article.
