Mitt Romney Leads New Florida Poll; Ron Paul Most Unfavorable Candidate but Places Fourth

With this afternoon's release of Public Policy Polling's survey of Florida Republican voters, Florida became the first Southern state polled by the firm that didn't select Texas Gov. Rick Perry as its front-runner for the GOP presidential nomination.

Instead, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney leads the Florida field, based on the opinions of 472 Florida Republicans, leading Perry 30 percent to 24 percent.

Among the various questions asked in the survey, the pollsters found that Rep. Ron Paul is the most unfavorable GOP presidential candidate in the field, 37 percent of Republican voters want someone other than Gov. Rick Scott as the party's nominee in the next gubernatorial election, and people still don't know who the hell the Republican candidates for the U.S. Senate race are.

According to the survey results, Paul received the most unfavorable rating among himself, Romney, Perry, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, and Rep. Michele Bachmann -- 45 percent said they had an unfavorable view of Paul, which was worse than Bachmann (37 percent) and Perry (31 percent), who were the next two most-unfavorable.

Still, Paul placed fourth in polling for the party's presidential nomination -- losing to Romney, Perry, and Gingrich but beating out pizza man Herman Cain (7 percent) and Bachmann (6 percent) as well as former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman, former Sen. Rick Santorum, and former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson, who all garnered less than 3 percent.

In survey results from the same polling that haven't yet been released, Public Policy Polling says it found just one Jew out of the 476 Floridians surveyed who would support Perry over President Obama.

Then there's Gov. Scott. In a question seemingly out of left field, just 53 percent of the Republican respondents said they wanted Scott to be the GOP candidate for governor in the next election. Just 37 percent said they wanted someone else, and 10 percent weren't sure.

Scott also received a 59 percent approval rating from his party's voters.

On the topic of which Republican is going to take on Sen. Bill Nelson in 2012, people still don't know -- which has been a trend in recent polls.

Mike McCalister leads the pack at 17 percent, ahead of George LeMieux at 13 percent, which are both well below the ever-popular "Someone else/Not sure" option at 58 percent.

The Republicans know who Sen. Marco Rubio is -- he got an 80 percent approval rating from his party's voters, but when the survey gauged the popularity of the Senate candidates, the four Republican hopefuls received an answer of "not sure" with levels between 71 percent for LeMieux and 89 percent for Craig Miller.

I'm not a right wing anything, and Ron Paul is nothing resembling what you portray him to be. He's an honorable statesman. I suggest you get your character meter adjusted. It's broken and pointing bass ackwards. Riverrat? Seems appropriate.

This is a biased piece of "journalism".  The author intentionally choose to spin the results in a specific manner in order to cast Dr. Paul in a particularly negative light.  This was done by failing to accurately cite the extremely small sample size (472 Republican voters) with a margin of error of +/-4.5%.

http://www.publicpolicypolling... that light, when you compare the "negativity" ratings of each of the candidates, they are statistically insignificant.  Thus, the article's title and purported conclusions concerning the same are completely incorrect.

I am furious that the media lies and spins on every aspect of Dr. Paul. They just had a Faux News poll showing that only 6% of Republican voters support him. Is anyone really suppose to believe that only 6% of Republicans want to end these wars and reign in the Federal govt? The media is a sick joke and so is the intellect of the average American. When you mindless idiots are starving to death while being ushered into a FEMA camp, just remember that you voted for the establishment candidate instead of the only man who told you the truth. Ron Paul 2012!

Although I don't agree with all of his policies and ideology, Ron Paul is the only honest candidate in the race, and that includes the POTUS.

For just wanting to audit and repeal the Fed, which is a threat to the international bankers, he deserves to be elected.

For just wanting to end the military empire, he deserves to be elected.

Those two policies alone would do more for this nation than any two other policies in decades.

this media is a joke...the way they treat this great man Ron Paul is so obvious ...so why do you think they keep doing it? because they know that a great amount of people don’t look at the issues for themselves and will settle for these news propagandist shows.and if they will do this Ron Paul what other news are they bending? we have a battle on our hands folks..freedom is not free ignorance is reigning in America! "If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be." Perhaps Ron Paul placed 4th with those polled because the media focused more on the other candidates. If Florida would invest a little time into reading his website, looking at some of his speeches at YouTube, or reading one of his books like "Liberty Defined" or "End The Fed", their opinion would greatly increase. He doesn't like the Soc. Sec. system the way it is, but said he will leave it alone while at the same time trying to fix it before it goes under completely. He does have a solid plan. He wants to end taxes so that we all have more $ in our pockets. He wants affordable health care for all. He wants to audit or abolish The Federal Reserve, which he believes is responsible for the sad shape our economy is in. Just give him a chance. Study him. Be open to a different kind of politician. And if you like him, donate like crazy and get your friends, family, and acquaintances to as well.

Don't be ridiculous.  He merely wants to end the expensive failure known as the war on drugs, which incarcerates people when some of them might need treatment instead.  Many come out having learned how to be real criminals from the pros.  Either way, the poor and minorities are most adversely affected and our jails are loaded with people who used alcohol or drugs.  We have the most incarcerated population on the planet (as a percentage of population).  Worse than China, Russia, etc.

Every single candidate from both parties represents a continuation of monkey business as usual in DC, with one exception.  Dr. Ron Paul.  Being so different from the others is rare, and thus easily misunderstood.  So, before you decide you don't care for Ron Paul, why don't you go check out his positions and why he holds them?  There have been a couple that I thought sounded bad, until I researched why he stands where he stands on them.  Then they made perfect sense.

The media told us he was unelectable in 2008 too, and look what choices we got and where we are now.  We won't be fooled again.  Make up your own mind and don't let the media choose your candidates.  It's the only way we can reverse the mess this country is in.

Did you know that our active duty troops contribute more to Ron Paul's campaign than they do to ALL other candidates of BOTH parties added together?  Want to support our troops?  Support the candidate the troops support.  Vote for Ron Paul.

Wow, Ron Paul get's no media love unless it's an attack piece or a straw man argument against his "Libertarian Philosophy".  No wonder he has an "unfavorable view" among the general polling public (which are landline telephone users BTW).  Ron Paul is the only consistent candidate with conviction.  Ron Paul has been warning us of our current economic crisis and Fed policy for over 30 years! Ron Paul receives more donations from active duty military and veterans than all candidates combined including the president.  Ron Paul can and will win in 2012!  Peace, Liberty, Sound Money, and Limited Constitutional Government! Veterans for Ron Paul 2012!

But you know what I've learned in my seven years here at Coolidge... Timmy? I've learned that you can't treat every situation as a life-and-death matter because you'll die a lot of times. Write that down.
