Markell Hollis, Boynton Beach Burglary/Car Chase Suspect, Turns Himself In

Markell Hollis is now in jail.

The Boynton Beach Police Department says 22-year-old Markell Hollis -- who escaped police after an alleged burglary and car chase on Tuesday -- turned himself in at the Palm Beach County Jail last night.

Hollis, who police said "should be considered armed and very dangerous," allegedly burglarized a house on the 2600 block of NE Fourth Court and started a police chase along with his 17-year-old brother and an 18-year-old man on Tuesday before their truck crashed into a house.

According to a police report, the cops caught Chedo Ceance -- who turned 18 about two weeks ago -- at a nearby convenience store and caught Markell Hollis' 17-year-old brother after a police K-9 sniffed him out hiding in someone's backyard.

During all of this, three Boynton Beach Police officers were injured during Officer Rachel Loy's third car crash when she lost control of her police car and hit a pole while responding to the burglary.

All three cops were hospitalized after the crash but have since been released. Police have not gone into detail about their injuries.

Hollis got away from the cops during the chase, but his alleged co-burglars and his parents were cooperating with police.

Hollis' mother got her son on the phone in a three-way call with police, and the cops say Markell Hollis admitted to loading a TV into the truck from the burglary victim's home and driving the truck during the police pursuit but, strangely enough, "denied any involvement in the burglary," the report says.

Among the things stolen from the house were three rifles, two 12-gauge shotguns, a 47-inch TV, $200 worth of quarters in ten jars, two silver dollars, .38-caliber ammo, and $15 in cash. Police say the men broke into the house by shattering a window.

Markell Hollis' criminal history includes a felony conviction for burglary of a Palm Beach County home in October 2010.

He faces charges of armed burglary with a firearm, grand theft, aggravated fleeing and eluding, being a felon in possession of a firearm, driving with a suspended license, leaving the scene of an accident with injuries, and resisting arrest.
