Fort Lauderdale Man Says He Accidentally Shot His Little Brother in the Head, Killing Him

Felix Phelps told police he accidentally shot his 17-year-old brother in the head.

​A Fort Lauderdale man says he accidentally shot and killed his 17-year-old brother over the weekend as the boy was helping his older brother close down the gas station he worked at, police say.

Fort Lauderdale Police Detective Travis Mandell says 27-year-old Felix Phelps called 911 around 11:45 p.m. Saturday, saying he had just accidentally shot his younger brother, Flexion Phelps.

When the cops showed up at the Texaco gas station in the 1300 block of SE 17th Street, they found Flexion bleeding from his head, Mandell says.

Flexion was immediately taken to Broward General Medical Center but was later pronounced dead.

Police haven't gone into too much detail about the shooting itself, but Mandell says Felix Phelps told detectives he thought the gun's safety was on when it suddenly discharged, striking his little brother in the head.

The cops say Flexion was at the gas station to help out his older brother with his closing duties for the night.

Mandell says the investigation is ongoing, and Felix has not been charged with any crime, pending further investigation.
