Dream Act Bill Filed in Florida Legislature

The Dream Act would help immigrant students.
A bill that would make college more affordable for undocumented immigrants has recently been filed in the Florida Legislature.

If passed, the Dream Act would allow undocumented immigrants who attended three or more years of high school in Florida to qualify for in-state tuition at public colleges and universities. To qualify for in-state tuition, these prospective students would also have to prove that they graduated from high school and are enrolled in college courses. Prospective students who do not have legal immigration status would also have to prove that they are trying to obtain legal residency status or citizenship.

A similarly named bill failed in the U.S. Congress in December. The federal-level DREAM Act would have granted legal status to countless students and members of the military. The Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors bill languished largely because of Republican opposition.

Florida's bill, which stands to be debated during the Legislature's upcoming session, was introduced by in the state House of Representatives by Rep. Dwight Bullard (D-Miami) and in the Florida Senate by Sen. Gary Siplin (D-Orlando) earlier this week. It would not grant legal status to undocumented immigrants.

For years, state legislators have been pushing for Dream Act-style legislation. As the Miami Herald reported as recently as January, longtime backers of these bills have little hope for its success -- especially in light of Gov. Rick Scott's emphatic, zero-tolerance approach to illegal immigration.

As detailed by the New York Times, California is likely to pass its own version of the Dream Act. Eleven states now have laws that allow undocumented students to receive in-state tuition, and eight more are considering Dream Act-style legislation in upcoming legislative sessions.

you people forget that a lot of these children came here at a very young age and consider themselves to be American, they go through middle school and high school with outstanding grades and then cant continue their education. These children are not to blame and should have the opportunity to make something of themselves just ike any of your children would.

Assimilation into our society is the key.  Resistance is futile!

P.S.

No matter what you do they will keep rising like those dead guys in the horror movies, to push their dream act through. You know the ones I mean. The ones you kill but as soon as you’re busy with something else they rise up again. They can afford to. They have been using our own fiat money against us.

Welcome to the new world order.

Some of us also had dreams. Many of those dreams have been squeezed dry through the devaluation of the dollar. When they create a dollar for things like this it devalues all of the honest money out their along with the rest of our wealth. Retirement funds included. No matter where your Aunt Martha has the cookie jar hid with her savings in it they are able to creep in like vampires in the night and suck the wealth out it.

When I started looking into where the money was coming from to buy off the politicians and subvert the immigration laws of the world, I came across what may be the root of many of our problems. Fiat Money.

No matter how much real money people can put together to build their countries the way they want there are those that can print up what ever it takes to dictate their way.

Maybe this will help make the danger of fiat money clear.

Imagine you and me are setting across from each other. We create enough money to represent all of the world's wealth. Each one of us has one SUPER Dollar in front of him.

You own half of everything and so do I.

I'm the government though. I get bribed into creating a Central Bank.

You're not doing what I want you to be doing so I print up myself eight more SUPER Dollars to manipulate you with.

All of a sudden your SUPER Dollar only represents one tenth of the wealth of the world!

That isn't the only thing though. You need to get busy and get to work because YOU'VE BEEN STIFFED with the bill for the money I PRINTED UP to get YOU TO DO what I WANTED.

That to me represents what has been happening to the economy, and us, and why so many of our occupations just can't keep up with the fake money presses.

We are headed for a head on collision! Some states are cracking down on illegal aliens, and others are bending over...or at least trying to. The thing that is interesting with all of this college for illegal aliens is that it is illegal to hire them. However, I suspect a hidden agenda on the part of dems. I think that want to rack up a large number of illegal aliens attending college so that our pres can be heartbroken because these "well educated" illegal aliens cant' get jobs...give 'em citizenship...I think this is where they are trying to go with this. Otherwise, it doen't make sense to be go gung ho to educate people who shouldn't be here.

I am trully amazed at the determination of our "leaders" to provide services to illegal aliens as our country goes bankrupt!!! If this makes sense to you, please explain it to us all....

Enough said!

Re:  California's AB 131

This bill gives much more than "whatever is left over after LEGAL residents apply."  There are fee (tuition) waivers, other subsidies, and discretionary Board of Governors' decisions.  We are being raped. Research to find the current version at the aroundthecapital website as this forum does not allow me to post URLs.  http://www.aroundthecapitol.co...

Get ready for a civil war between states who harbor and abet ILLEGAL ALIENS and those who do not wish to dilute their society, economy, and education with them. When our government and officials openly defy the rule of law, use public funds, and put non-citizens ahead of their own and LEGAL IMMIGRANTS, it is time for a radical change. Revolution anyone?

The people who care to learn more about the madness behind these kinds of issues should research the terms: WHITE GUILT and IDIOT COMPASSION.

You say that until it applies to you. What if your parents came here when you were still a small child? What if you never had the choice to be here but hey, here you are, fearing that any day, your life will be ripped from under you and you will be sent back from a place you barely even know of? What if your home was taken away after people have found out that you don't legally belong here? The DREAM Act and the Dream Act, I support. For kids who had no choice but to be here, they've done no wrong and have lived as Americans, just like the rest of us. They are Americans. Just because it doesn't affect you, doesn't mean that going against it is right. And a lot of them work a heck of a lot more doing stuff that you would be sickened to dirty your pretentious hands with.

This is what happens when a government cherry picks which laws to enforce. Sorry about (no I'm not!) illegal aliens who brought their children here in the usafe conditions, and have pretty much branded them for life, or at least as long as they stay here! This is unfortunate, but as with any country, our obligation is to our own.

What you are saying about going back to a country that most of you know nothing about doesn't hold water. Your parents were about the same age, and could say the same thing, but they came here anyway! In the new millinieum (sp) everyone goes everywhere! The problem is that these "kids" are not Americans!!!! The sooner they realize this, the easier it will be!

We have given you a good free education, K-12, which is much more than you would have gotten from your native country. Take this good education back to where you came from, and use it to suppress your people the way you were supressed before you got the education. sorry, America's sympathy plate is full and overflowing for its own.

And, as far as, "And a lot of them work a heck of a lot more doing stuff that you would be sickened to dirty your pretentious hands with." broken English, but I get it. This is the problem, illegal aliens will take anything at any price, under any conditions. You drive down our wages and lower our standards. You may consider yourselves "Americans", but what you have forgottten is that we have standards that you don't! Go back to your culture where these things are okay! You say you are an "American, but you are probably a CINO (citizen in name only!), like the rest of hsipanics who promote the illegal alien agenda over Americans!!!

Your right, but when they entered they did it legally. Then they went to work and paid thier own way.  Not on the public dime. There was none!

The old worn out invalid history lesson that always seems to leave out the part about legal immigration of our ancestors vs. today's, "buy a tourist plane ticket and forget to go back" immigrants.

The Florida education system is broken in some part thanks to the "diversity entitlement" of illegal immigration. With the only possibility of recouping some of those direly needed funds through non resident tuition rules, the affected want the last free pass. My son was educated at a university out of state and I obligingly paid "out of state" tuition. I knew the deal, but then legal citizens tend to play by the rules of the game, unlike illegal immigrants who seem to compound their illegal entry with follow up illegal activities in one big scam after another. The sense of entitlement is bizarre. Counting illegal residence as a rationale for residency discount is absurd.

People who don't respect our laws and our borders don't respect our country and our people. They are NOT immigrants. They are nothing but invaders who deserve nothing from us but deportation. Immigrants respect and our laws, our borders, our country and our people no matter what continent they come here from. Those are the people who built this great nation... not illegal alien invaders!

Can't argue with that, however, please give African Americans credit for building on the labor of their backs, and the Chinese for the railroad. The thing, in my opinion, that distinguishes immigrants of old is that they WANTED to become American, no matter the cost. They bent over backwards to prove they wanted to be American. Never in their wildest would they think of coming here to get on welfare!!!  I have a friend who is first generation Portugese. She can't speak the language because her parents felt it so important that she speak English well, that they only spoke Portuguese among themselves!

Your ignorant and don't know what your talking about. To suggest that hispanic Americans support illegal immigration. We have sympathy for children how had no choice. Save your whining about how Americans have it bad. These kids don't want anything but an opportunity that American dramatically already have over immigrants.

And how about those who pay taxes and work just as hard as American citizens? Generalizations are stupidity embodied.

You are so right! I'm an American of Mexican descent (2nd generation) and I don't speak Spanish. My godparents taught me and their children that it was rude to speak Spanish in front of those who didn't understand it. They had great respect for this country and our people. They, like the others of their time knew how important unity is to our country. Most illegals who come here today have no desire to be Americans. Some don't even like Americans! They just want whatever they can get from us... to use us. They are a black eye on the good Hispanics/Latinos who are American citizens or legal residents and love this country.
