Cops Serve Warrant on Kiddie Porn Suspect and Find Him, of Course, Downloading Kiddie Porn

Police served a warrant Thursday at Claudio Vidal's Boca Raton apartment, suspecting he'd been downloading child pornography.

Sure enough, the cops walked in and found Vidal's computer screen on and mid-download on some new kiddie porn, according to an arrest affidavit.

As part of an operation by the Palm Beach County Sexual Predator Enforcement Unit, a police detective on a peer-to-peer network says he noticed that a Boca Raton IP address happened to be downloading a whole lot of naked kids.

The detective downloaded one of the videos to be sure, and the one he picked was a man having sex with a kid under 9 years old.

That was enough for the search warrant, and the cops came a-knocking at Vidal's apartment.

He admitted to police he had been downloading videos, and when the cops entered his bedroom to see what kind of videos those were, they saw the computer screen was on and displaying an in-progress download of more kiddie porn, according to the report.

Vidal, 50, told police "he is very knowledgeable about computers," which apparently isn't the case since the cops found out.

He told the cops he has thousands of videos, but when he finds child pornography, he deletes it. On the other hand, police say he told them he knows it's illegal to have child porn and identified what kind of kiddie porn he had on his computer -- which he reportedly told police included boys and girls.

A police detective checked the computer at the scene and found a combination of 300 videos and pictures of naked kids, with the videos detailing kids between 5 and 10 years old being sexually abused, police say.

At his first court appearance on Friday, Vidal's bond was set at $10,000 per charge -- for 53 kiddie-porn related charges -- for a total of $530,000.

Vidal's bond conditions also include house arrest, no computer or internet access, no contact with minors, and he must surrender his passport. As of Friday evening, he's staying in jail instead.

If convicted on all counts, Vindal could face a maximum sentence of 765 years in prison.
